Sounds like I might be having a similar problem. I’m running 10.6.3, and my MPEG-2 files come out of Compressor looking very pixelated.

Hi Brian, thank you for responding.

The 5D shoots 1080p, Quicktime H.264 files, linear PCM…. I read somewhere else something about MPEG-4 files as well. Not sure about that.

Before I edit, I turn every file into ProRes 422 HQ.

I have a 75 minute project that I’m compressing into an MPEG-2, and everything becomes jagged. No smooth lines on text, or faces etc… It’s not just that way through my DVD player. I view the MPEG-2 on my computer monitor and see the same jagged lines. They’re really pronounced on text, when as a .mov file, the text, and subject matter, is silky smooth.

    Thanks for your help!

p.s. The problem isn’t the horizontal interlace lines. It’s almost like I’m seeing pixels on peoples faces, text borders, any movement…

Transcoding to ProRes worked. Thanks a million.

Why does it need to be converted if it’s a .mov to begin with?

Okay, it looks good on a TV monitor… I didn’t realize that a computer monitor would be that different.

They didn’t specify that I compress it using H.264. They didn’t specify anything. I assumed H.264 would work well. Is there a better way to do it for TV?

    Thanks!

You can see a sample here https://popboom.net/viewer.php?vid=660

The video in question is right at the beginning.

I think the footage is interlaced? I’m not sure. I imported it from mini DV tape, into a regular NTSC timeline. How can I find out if it’s interlaced?

I’m using the H.264 in the Quicktime export option. Is that what you mean by setting?

Thanks everybody for your prompt replys…

So, if I want to export using ON2VPC, WMV9 or 2SWF, I need to buy something extra? I don’t see these in my list of options. I think the one I’d most like to use is the Flash ON2VPC.

    Thanks again,

    Paul
