Whoooops my bad. I did not interpret the question correctly. Walter is 100% correct, just replace footage. pretty easy, I thought you wanted to apply the effects to another layer in the comp.

When in the layer with all the effects, press F3 to bring up the effects panel. Select all, ctrl+C and then select the target layer, press F3 and paste (ctrl+V) into the new layer.

    Should work

Firstly, make the video a 3D layer, then corner pin it to the area you wish it to be in. Possibly put a mask on it and feather it a little so the edges are not sharp.

Thats the place to start, then lets see from there.

    Hi Todd, thanks for posting.

In reply to both of your posts:

Firstly I must apologise for using the term ‘marker’ as I could not think of the ‘current-time indicator’ term at the time.

For years, this has never given me issues, so this is why it had me baffled.

This is how I would do it: Simply type in my text with the text tool, which AE will automatically make a new layer and set the beginning of the layer to ‘current time indicator’. I would then set my ‘current time indicator’ at the position at which I’d like my text preset animator to occur, and the ‘animator’ keyframes in the text layer would appear at that point.

What was happening, is that these animator keyframes, the animator preset, were occurring at the beginning of the entire timeline – at 00:00 and I could not find the keyframes to move them up.

I have just now, started another comp to test it again – and now see that all is working fine. There may well have been something wrong with my project settings on the one I was having problems with – who knows what? Point is, it happened and I was wondering if there is perhaps a button that may have been ticked for this to happen.

Hi Erik. Thanks for the response.

Let me try and explain better.

Lets say you have a comp that is 1 minute long and at 30 seconds into the comp, you want animated text to bounce on. Normally you would place
the time marker at 30seconds and set the animation preset. The text would then bounce onto the screen at 30seconds.

What is happening now, is that any animation preset I put in is starting at 00:00 and not at the point at which I want it to.

Does that make more sense ?

    Thanks
    P

  • I was at an expo not so long ago and Autodesk had a display there of a BMW advert that had been done mainly in a Hardware/Software package called Flame.

When I asked what it cost, I nearly fell on my back.
£150,000 or $230,000 or in Rands R1,7 million

    Another way I do it:

Import all your JPEGS, drag them all into the comp, then click animation/keyframe assistant/sequence layers – set the desired time length and vwala.

David, thanks. I searched all over for that shortcut – sometimes just getting the terminology incorrect stops us from getting the answer.

I also feel a bit silly, as after I got your answer I found the keyboard shortcut list in the help drop down – can’t believe I did not see it sooner.

Thank you – that shortcut is exactly what I was after.

Stuart, I’m using 6.5 and when all the layers are selected and I drag the out point of one, only that one drags, so that is not a solution for me – it may have changed in newer versions though.

Thank you both for your valued input.
