SD and HD doesn’t mean anything.
You need to have proper sequence settings.
and Judge the canvas at 100%
Check your Canvas, is it set to 100%?

What are your current sequence settings?

So you shot HDV? or DV?

For sony HDV you should choose easy setup HDV 1080i50
Then log and capture.

If you still don’t get an image now, then your deck has iLink conversion set to ON
You should set it OFF or it will output a DV signal ( even when you shot HDV)

Was it shot with a Sony HDV camera ? or another brand?

What kind of Sony VTR? Firewire miniDV/DVCAM?

What are your Capture settings?

Have you used easy setup first to set proper format.
Then new project

Most important question
How are you exporting?

Export Quicktime?
Quicktime Conversioin?
Compressor?

I would export the DVCPROHD timeline first -> Quicktime Export with Current settings selfcontained.
Then use Compressor with a local cluster to create the ProRes.

This way you can use more cores from your Mac.

A. Judge your canvas at 100% Zoom
B. Use ProRes 444 or Animation codec in Sequence settings for best quality.

*Animation Codec is not a realtime video codec but much better for graphics in FCP compared to ProRes422.
It’s a huge difference. Yeah i was suprised too.

Log and Transfer needs tje folder structure.

So you need

EOS_DIGITAL->DCIM->100EOS7D ( or 5D )-> Your H264/THM files

Create this folder structure and Log and Transfer will work definately.

You can’t import them in Bins first ‘before’ you convert them to ProRes.
They are dropping because you can’t edit with these files in FCP/
Now you have the original H264 versions in your project. Which you DON’T want.

Convert them to ProRes using
a. Compressor ( already on your mac)
b. Mpeg Streamclip
c. Log and transfer 7d plugin.

You can always download the plugin or mpeg streamclip on your home computer.
Put it on a USB stick and then install on your editing station.

Yes converting it first to one codec, ProRes for example.

And working with supported codecs in general.

Mixed formats doesn’t mean you can edit h264 with Mpeg2 in a FCP sequence.
