  • I hear you, and totally agree. However, I don’t have control of this issue.

What I figured we can do is work the offlines using both formats as best as possible. When we’re ready for online, we’ll be mixing DigiBeta and HDV. We’ll still have the render issue, but it won’t be a big deal, as 99% of the work will have been done as fare as editing goes. We’ll do the render, and make whatever minor changes or tweaks necessary.

Ever hear of a Miranda box? I hear that may do the trick…

    Thanks!

You can literally customize the keyboard to do whatever you want. What I did when I first got on it, was to have the keyboard layout up all the time (tools/keyboard layout/customize). There’a a very handy search tool in it trhat you can use to find any shortcut you can think of, and then map it to the keyboard. Being an AVID / Media 100 guy, I was able to map all my favorite shortcuts from both systems. In that sense, FCP beats both AVID and Media 100 hands down.

There’s also a great book out for Avid editors who are trying to make the jump to FCP.

    Title: FCP for Avid Editors
    author: Diana Weynand
    Apple Pro Training Series.

It’s a GREAT book, and well worth the money.

    Good luck!

I find the best way to scroll the timeline while playing is: “shift”+tracking wheel on mouse.

September 29, 2005 at 12:49 pm in reply to: External monitor/audio not quite in sync?

Sorry for the delay – I was out of the suite yesterday.

The ‘Abort PTV/ETT on dropped frames” is selected. I tried just playing back the sequence and the same happens. So it’s not just on printing. The sync holds up well in the Viewer and Browser windows; but not on the external monitor.

I’m at a loss, as this hasn’t happpened before.

    Thanks,

Sorry to piggy-back on someone else’s thread, but I’m havin a similar problem. The exception being that on output, my video/audio are in sync; and the video progressively drops frames as the print goes on. During a half-hour show, my video gets out of sync by 10 frames at the end of it.

I’m running FCP Pro 5 on a G5 with a Kona 2 card and a fiber-optic Huge Systems media tower (2.5 tb). I’m printing to a Sony PVW 2800 BetaSP deck.

What’s strange is that this is the first time its happened; I tried to thrash the prefs, but no change.

    Thanks

I just checked out the software Matthew recommended, and it looks like the real deal.

    Volume I, page 233:

“Note: Video levels can only be adjusted for analog interfaces”.

Not sure how to do that: I also have a KONA card, and it only has digital inputs. Hmmm…

September 23, 2005 at 12:16 pm in reply to: How do I Batch re-digitize video only?

Mainly because I’m working with tapes that don’t have bars and tone on them (thanks, cameraguy!) I’ve already adjusted all the audio. If I re-dig, My mix depends on where my levels are set on the deck. I’d rather bypass it altogether, frankly.

I’m a Media100 guy, and on that platform you can select to re-dig audio or not at the click of a button. Simple, effective. Thought there might be a similar feature on FCP. Maybe next update?
