    Hi,

There is no FCP 5.1. You probably got 5.0.1 in your box. If that’s the case, run Mac OS X Software Update from System Preferences. There are free updates that will take you to 5.0.3.

Beyond that, if you continue to run into trouble capturing go into FCP’s User Preferences. On the right side of the window there is an option for “On timecode break…” select “Make New Clip” from the pop-up. Even if you’ve recorded the tape straight without stopping, there may be some glitch on it that’s forcing FCP to think there’s a break.

If the problem persists, go into your home (user) directory ~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/ and throw out the following files: “Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs” “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache” and “Final Cut Pro Prof Cache”. RESTART.

Please use the deck’s downconvert options in the menus. Then create a new project using the standard DV NTSC (or PAL) presets. Once the deck is setup to downconvert, FCP will see it as any other DV deck and you’ll be able to control it.

Both Panasonic and Apple have worked together and delivered the world’s first HD over FireWire solution. At the request of our European customers, we added support for 1080i 50 in Final Cut Pro 5.

Unfortunately we do not support 720p 25 via FireWire at this time. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, there are several workarounds for this; Final Cut Pro 5 works with 720p 25 using PCI capture cards.

We endeavor to build great software for our customers. We review feedback from the FCP feedback page on a regular basis and would love to hear from you:
