    Hi all,

I’m currently working on a project that I’ve shot on 1080i on the Sony Z1U, but downcoverted to SD to edit. I’m ready to re-capture everything in HDV, but when I connect the firewire i-link to my dual 2.7 G5 and load up the capture window I get the following message:

“Unable to Initialize Capture Device and Device Control

Device is not connected or the capture preset and device control preset are not setup correctly. You may still log offline clips.
This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.”

    More info:

    Sequence Preset: HDV-1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: Sony HDV Firewire

Also, I’ve noticed that in the camera lcd screen, the format is “DV” when final cut is running. When FCP is not running, the format gives the correct “HDV” reading.

    Thanks

Please use the deck’s downconvert options in the menus. Then create a new project using the standard DV NTSC (or PAL) presets. Once the deck is setup to downconvert, FCP will see it as any other DV deck and you’ll be able to control it.

Have you changed your Easy Setup to the HDV option? Sounds like you’re still working in a DV project, from your offline. Now that you’re ready to online, you’ll need to either change your setup, or Media Manage over to a new project which is set to HDV settings.

Thanks folks. I implemented Paul’s suggestions and tweaked the settings on my camera and it works now. Thanks!
