This sounds like it might be a situation where quicktime was corrupted. I would try trashing your quicktime receipts at HD > Library > Receipts (back them up before you do it for peace of mind). See if that helps.

Have you tried exporting a new 10-bit uncompressed file just for the heck of it with a different name just to see if it might have something to do with that specific file that’s causing problems? That’s what I would do first since it’s an odd problem.

Also, are there any other 10-bit uncompressed files that run fine in that timeline without any dropped frames?

November 7, 2007 at 12:01 am in reply to: Compressor 3 – Geometry – crop & aspect ratio

I used to do this all the time with Compressor 2, and it was pretty easy enough for me – just setting the crop to crop out the top and bottom and the custom pixel size of my choosing. It sounds like you’re doing that in Compressor 3 and still having problems… I’m not sure exactly why. But if you could do it in Compressor 2, you definitely should be able to do it in Compressor 3. I haven’t played with Compressor 3 that much or else I could probably be of more assistance… just keep trying!

Try changing the motion filtering quality to BEST in the Video Processing tab of the Sequence Settings window.

Im still having trouble figuring out exactly what you’re saying. Are you saying that 2 frames of video don’t get captured and the separation between two sequential clips are 2 frames? If that’s what you are saying then I can’t think of much else to help you other than “welcome to the world of HDV”. Using firewire to transfer HDV is a lesson in patience and headaches when it come to timecode.

You could always try logging your clips with the exact timecode that you’re looking for ahead of time and then doing a batch capture – maybe then you’ll get all of the frames you’re looking for.

If I’m still misunderstanding what you’re saying, then please clarify. Thanks.

Try trashing everything in your render files folder off the 6th drive that isn’t working and rendering again. See if that yields any better results.

Don’t beat yourself up – it wasn’t actually that obvious. Most final cut users don’t even use Quicktime pro to its fullest capacity since they don’t really need to. The Quicktime only way should work though, and it’s probably the way you want to do it.

    Hey there,

Chances are it’s still reading a render file and therefore hasn’t updated like it should. What I generally do in a situation like this is change the opacity or some other parameter and then change it back – forcing another render. When you do this, it should update.

While this definitely may be a hardware issue, I couldn’t count out the possibility of it being an overall Quicktime problem – such as a corruption of something Quicktime related.

I just heard from Shane Ross that Quicktime 7.3 has been released. If possible, maybe upgrading to that will solve some of the problems… worth a shot at this point I think.

Shane let us know your experiences after upgrading QT. I’m curious as to what it fixes and/or what it causes.
