You’re missing the elephant in the room:
the replacement of i) QuickTime (including QT X) with AV Foundation, and
ii) the old XML Project format.

The only version of iMovie remotely similar (beyond the GUI) is the iPad version of iMovie.
And nothing hitherto in the video world has relied on CoreData for its database engine – or handled metadata in such a powerful way.

Philip Hodgetts has spent many many months explaining that this isn’t ‘unimaginable’ because quite a lot of the detail is already out there 🙂

Maybe it will include more elements from the ‘First Cut’ ingest application that has been mentioned somewhere in this forum as Ubilos’ precursor to what became iMovie 8?

The installer is on the OS X 10.6 main install DVD, found double-clicking an icon called Optional Installs.
If FCS 3 is already installed it upgrades itself to QT 7 Pro automatically – no messing with registration numbers.

As I understand it its the Mac Pro Server model that’s been EOL’d.
Which is logical as that model won’t exist once Lion ships – as the Server upgrade is an App Store download, so there won’t be a retail Server model as such.

Points to Lion being sooner rather than later though 😉

Hmmm.
The only reason to come out with a new Mac Pro at the moment would be to add the v1 Thunderbolt ports.
In terms of high end (Mac Pro) users that adds zilch new functionality at this point in time, given the state of Thunderbolt peripheral progress so far.

The replacement Sandy Bridge two-processor CPUs aren’t going to be available from Intel until Q4 2011, and they require a new CPU socket and chipset, so a complete motherboard redesign – a good time to add Thunderbolt, maybe even a faster v2 optical Light Peak option?.

A form-factor change would be easy for the Sandy Bridge Q4+ redesign, but very costly now.
FCP X/Motion X should scream on the current boxes, so plenty of wow! factor potential already at hand.
(Airs and Minis need Thunderbolt though.)

Yes. The labels only apply to standard def (= interlaced) composite video.

On an HD camera or other HD video device/deck, the SD composite-out monitoring socket could also be labeled like this.

What size is a television picture?
There are 576 active lines in a television picture, making it 576 pixels high. A 4:3
image would therefore be:
(576 x 4) ÷ 3 = 768 pixels wide.
However this assumes the pixels are square – but television pixels are not square.
They have an aspect ratio of approximately 1:1.094.
A 4:3 television picture would
therefore be:
768 ÷ 1.094 = 702 non-square pixels wide
So a 4:3 television image is 702 pixels wide by 576 high.

But anyone who has imported graphics from a computer system to the television
systems knows the correct width to make the image is 720 pixels!
Why – and where did the extra 18 pixels come from?

Digital pictures are effectively wider than analogue pictures by 18 pixels but the 4:3
image sits inside the 720 by 576 area. The additional 18 pixels are required for digital
processing and it would be perfectly acceptable to leave them black – but if the image
is shrunk via a digital DVE, two 9 pixel wide black stripes will be seen at the sides.
