You can drag the crossfades/dissolves – like you do to clips when you trim an edge – to make them longer or shorter, or you can hold CTRL and click on the opacity envelope inside of each clip to create a keyframe. Create 2 keyframes, then drag one to 0%. Then you can adjust the handles on the keyframe to make bezier curves if you want.

You can select a few clips in the timeline and do File > Dynamic Link (something like that, I dont remember the exact menu names – I’m not at my editing computer now) and that will open them up in AE. You can also copy and paste between the two programs.
If you were on CS4, you could select the files you want to put into AE and right click and select SEND TO AE or MAKE AE COMP (again, I dont remember the exact name). But what I would do is duplicate the clips cuz once you send it into AE as a COMP, it combines all the footage into ONE instance in the timeline or one “clip.” So duplicate the footage, place it on top, and send the top clips to AE, JUST in case.

It’s either you hard drive read speed as Jeff said or you processor but it’s most likely your hard drive read speed.
What is your hard drive setup (RAID?) and what are your computer specs?

That’s really difficult to remove. If it’s there when he isn’t speaking, you could just add some roomtone but if it’s there when he IS speaking, then it’s there to stay. You can reduce it slightly by possibly lowering it’s frequency. Mostly likely it’ll be more on the bassy side, so reduce the low frequencies.
Keep in mind however, that this will affect the speaker’s voice and reduce the amount of bass (or whatever frequency you lower) in the voice.
Basically, you can clean it up slightly but it’s still going to be there.

Forgot to mention. You might be able to use a GLOW effect between shots or something, or a dip to white transition if they have it. I’m not sure. I know there’s a dip to black transition.

I would probably just use a white solid and crossfade between that and the footage. obviously you’d have to use the white solid for only a few frames.. 1-5 frames or so, depending on the effect.

That’s a good setup. You may need a RAID for HD footage if you plan on editing that but most likely not if you’re editing DVC PRO HD or something similar.

If you have enough slots, add a DVD burner.

You want SATA that supports 3Gbps. Get rid of the IDE drive. SATA is better.

RAIDs (if configured for speed) will give you better read/write times. If you have footage that needs to be read at some high data rate like uncompressed HD does, then you’ll need a RAID.

It could be depending on what you have in your computer (graphics card, # of hard drives, etc). I think mine’s either an 800 or 1000 watt.

That’s insanely awesome! Not sure how stable CS4 is on HUGE projects but this could be a workaround if stability is an issue.

Ahh, no big deal but yeah, that is a little weird. The subclip thing is nice too, aside from not having all of the media to slip/slide with but still not a big deal.
