I agree. Base your edits on performances then key last. Also, in the near future, if you’re upgrading to CS5, you can probably do all that in real time and if you like the ULTRA keyer, that is now included in Premiere that should work in realtime with the Mercury Playback Engine. The ULTRA backgrounds, however, are probably (almost definitely) not included. But you could probably render them out and bring them in as a background layer so you can work in realtime.

I really like the Matrox MXO2 family of products. Very portable, great price, and they work great. We have an MXO2 LE here at the suite and we’re thinking about adding an MXO2 Mini for outputting on another suite, as we don’t need all the inputs and outputs in that suite.
Combine this with CS5 and a Quadro FX 4800 card and you’ll have a great suite with amazing performance.
Just my opinion though.

Instead of outputting, you can just cut and paste between apps or better yet, dynamic link between the two if you have the production suite.

Those three brands are all good. Bella I think is the most expensive. It comes with a cool little light too. Cool to me, maybe not to anyone else though.
I’d probably go with the Logic ones, as they are not as expensive as the Bellas, but they seem to be really good. Plus that wheel on the Bella would be kinda annoying for me.

No I usually nest sequences but if I’m rendering out my film for DVD or something like that, I’m rendering it out of AE cuz that’s where I do my color correction and VFX.

I’ve edited features in Premiere on DVCPro HD and MiniDV and I’ve had no real big issues. There are some issues sometimes with freezing up when you have large amounts of footage but if you keep your sequences smaller, then you shouldn’t really have too much of a problem.
I never have the entire feature in one timeline. I also nest sequences and build the feature that way. I try to keep my sequences around 10-15 minutes long.
