Okay sorry folks should’ve read Craig’s “how to get the fastest compression help” post before I posted. Here’s some extra info that may help.

I’m on OSX 10.5.6 using compressor 3.5. QTPro 7.6(473). The source file is a QT in the Photo J-PEG codec – Interger (Big endian) with 48k audio . Trying to output MPEG-1 with audio for use in a device which plays MPEG straight from a compact flash card.

    Hope this info helps.

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

thanks for your response I really appreciate any help you can give me with this.

    >but a point tracker might do the job as the car will be heading straight toward the camera I presume, so there shouldn’t be too much (if any) shift in perspective< I think we may have our wires crossed. The shot I'm after is actually a POV from inside the car. From the rear passenger seat and over the shoulder of the driver and another in the passenger seat. So there's no opportunity for a locked off camera. Cheers Paul

    Hi Franciska

Different programs use differing amounts of RAM so the benefits will depend on the programs you are using. If you google about a bit there’s loads of mind numbing test comparison showing RAM use on Macs with various production software.

Having said that, I reckon if you’re not in a position to upgrade the machine at the moment and won’t be for a year or so, $300.00 spent on Maxing out your ram is probably money well spent. Others may dispute the benefits but I’ve never been disappointed when I’ve bought more RAM for any machine I’ve had.

Of course if it’s worth it or not depends on when you think you will be in a position to upgrade. Of course if you have a new grunty Mac Pro you are using at work, you may become increasingly frustrated with the older Mac at home – but that’s a different issue.

    Hope this is useful.

    Cheers

    Hi Floh, thanks for that.

I’ve backed up all my important stuff and I’m now using the migration assistant to do the tranfer from the old to new machine. Problem is the Migration assistant has stayed at ‘less than a minute remaining’ ‘transferring your applications folder’ for about an hour now. The blue loading line goes from a (scary) stripey blue/white to a solid blue line from time to time.

You got any thought about this?

Hmm, looks like I might be loading everything from scratch. I hope it doesn’t effect my old machine though.

    Cheers

    I see.

The Libec has been set to F and actually works for the most part ie it zooms in and out etc. It just zooms out when not being touched. I’ll try a firmware update and see what happens.

Thanks again for your help Michael.

    Cheers

    Hi Michael

thanks for your response. I don’t have the camera with me right now. But I’ll get back to you with the serial #. How do I know what firmware version I have? So you reckon there could be a firmware update for this?

Hmm, surely Libec wouldn’t put their hand up for a issue if there isn’t one?

    Cheers

    That’s great ralph,

to be honest (IMO) there’s not alot MTR and streamclip can’t handle if you are prepared to play with the settings – and both off them are free – sweeeet dude!

    > One ‘small oddity though… my interviewees look like smurfs…< Ha... that's funny. Marc you are the master of the understatement. Some off my clients would get pretty upset if they came out looking like smurfs. Cheers Paul

Yes BAD SECTORS can be deliberately put onto the DVD for this reason. However, mac the ripper comes with pretty good instructions which talk you through how to work around this.

Weird though, in my experience it’s fairy unusual not to be able to play(and/or export) the VOB files using stream clip or MTR.

Take a look at MTRs instructions re how to deal with BAD SECTORS and see if you can get a copy of the disc content onto your hard drive. I’m pretty sure once you’ve got it off that disc, you’ll be abel to progress using stream clip.

Having said that, perhaps try using MTR and Streamclip on a disc you’ve already been able to process (if you’ve done so before) or one you’ve created yourself. Just to check all the versions of software including your current OS, QT, MTR and Streamclip are working in harmony.

Because as Floh says it may turn out to be the disc after all.

    Cheers
    Paul
