  • If you can’t track it, you may need to keyframe it manually. One thing that might help you is to attach the emitter to a light layer. This will make it much easier to visualize where the emitter is and which direction it’s pointing.

They are moving between and adding servers. This was in the rss feed yesterday at 3:45CST:

“We are juggling a few server systems to increase stability. The site may go up and down temporarily.

    Thanks for your understanding!”

If you mean 3D modeling, I don’t believe you will see that in After Effects beyond what’s in CS4 for 3D Photoshop layers.

I’m curious, what are you lacking in AE that prevents you from accomplishing your tron grid? You can rotate and position layers in 3D space. Aside from the light cycles which would have to be 3-D models, that entire scene is re-creatable in AE.

    David-

You don’t happen to have the link to that thread around, would you? I’d be curious to see it.

I believe CS4 is still 32-bit. So the only direct benefit you will get from the extra RAM is that AE will almost assuredly get it’s max of 3GB even with other apps running.

You can take advantage of the extra RAM by enabling the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” setting under Multiprocessing, but to be honest, I haven’t had much luck with that in CS3 at least.

In FCP, what is the Alpha set to? Scroll to the right in the browser until you see the Alpha column. Make sure it’s not set to None/Ignore.

That’s the only thing I can think of. Odd.

Are you sure they’re the same? If you open them up in Quicktime Player and Get Info on them, do the codecs match? It could also be a corrupt quicktime, which I’ve seen happen when people copy files before they’re finished exporting.

If I remember correctly, an eye with a fully black pupil indicates a transparency mode other than Normal is being used. White dot in the eye means Normal is selected.

Take a look above. I just posted an AE project file, which would probably help more than my rambling ever would.

The reason for the size of the comp was to grab just a small slice of the image and turn it on its side & stretch it so it looks like streaks of light/dark going from the projector to the screen.
Step 3 would entail making one comp for each section we want to stretch. In my example, there’s three. One for the left edge, one for the center, and one for the right edge. If we wanted to cover an entire 640×480 image, you would need 64 comps, one for each of the 10 pixel sections of the screen.

I’ve attached the project file & assets (AE CS3) for anyone to take a look at.
