  • Problem importing MOV files.

Posted by Rich Seemueller on November 4, 2008 at 7:40 pm

An editor needs me to convert and scale down some HD footage to SD for him. He’s exported two versions of the same commercial; one is 60sec, the other is 30sec. They are both 1920×1080 and 29.97 frames per second.

They were both output from AVID using the same preset, yet both will not import to AE properly. The 60 sec is fine. It’s all done, scaled down, etc. The 30sec gives me an error that .mov is an unsupported format.

Any ideas what may be causing this?!

    Thanks!

Are you sure they’re the same? If you open them up in Quicktime Player and Get Info on them, do the codecs match? It could also be a corrupt quicktime, which I’ve seen happen when people copy files before they’re finished exporting.

I had this issue in the past. I was running AE CS3 on windows. All it required was an update of AE.

For whatever reason the update was not automatic. I had to manually download it from the Adobe website.

    It’s worth a shot.
