MXF is not truely lossless. But I doubt you’ll see the difference as long as your MXF matches the original resolution. Just use the standard MXF template for your projects resolution. If every ounce of quality counts, then render to an uncompressed codec — but that creates huge files, takes a long time and may not be necessary in your case.

I don’t really know for sure what Vegas does when you drop a saved .veg onto a new timeline, but my guess is that it is rendering it to a temp file somewhere. How else could it work?

SO — I don’t fully understand what your doing with the 4 video tracks and the masks — but rendering it to the MXF should work for the panning effect you wish to do. Best way to tell, is render a small section to see.

    >> would it later be renderable in .m2t format?
Yes it would. MXF is a good intermediate format in the editor, but I wouldn’t use it for a final output.

What is your final output? Blu-Ray?

You can also just render the 4 video track FX to an MXF file ( or some lossless format) and work with that in the same way as the veg file on a new timeline. This might load faster as you work on the project that the .veg file.

Create a .veg file with all 4 tracks and their FX. Save this file.
Load this veg file into a new timeline.
You can then use pan/crop or track motion to create the pan.
    Should work.

This is an interesting problem and Vegas has so many tools.

Try this using the same scheme with Track Motion for sizing and placement and 3 stacked tracks.

    Use (Legacy) Text.
    1) In the Edit tab, set alignment to left.
    2) In the placement tab, set text placement center left.

I’d make each title a separate event. Then stack them on additional tracks above your image, one track per title event.
You can then easily fade them in or out and place them on the screen where you want them.

Use track motion to reduce the title size and to do the placement on each track. This can be tricky – but once you understand how track motion works it is very handy (and powerful) ..

Once you have a set of bullet point titles done and working .. you can copy and paste them into other sections of your piece, easily changing the text, placement etc.

  • Looks like this particular FX does not allow for “sync cursor” as it is greyed out.
What’s your original media? I tried the FX you are using in HitFilm on some 1920 x 1080 MTS files and the “sync cursor” was not greyed out and worked fine. But when I tried it on some 4k files — no sync cursor.

OH … I see … Use “Video Event FX” and not “Media FX” to get the sync cursor. Nothing to do with the type of file.
    Try that.

It was worth it to me. I like to keep up and support Vegas as well.

What’s your final destination? YouTube? DVD? Media server?
