PAL or NTSC? We have about 6 x D9 decks here soon to become redundant, but they are Aussie delivered PAL versions. Been incredibly reliable in their 10 years by the way – nothing but an occasionally head clean.

Richard, the BMD guys post in here regularly – several times a week.
To the Original Poster – this seems to be their official unofficial forum.
Bob – are you referring to BMD’s Aussie Heritage? Most of us aussies hate Vegimite. And Fosters too – that’s just the crap we produce for export 🙂

If you are going to be editing in MC then you WANT the DNxHD version. All you need to do is drop the mxf media files into Avid’s media directory, open avid, open the media tool and there they are. No AMA or transcoding. We have been doing this with the competitors device and it works a treat.

I dont think so. But Softron Software’s Movie Recorder can do it. While recording it creates a 1 hour (or more via preferences) proxy file that can be immediately dragged into editing or playback software and worked with. It’s a great feature that we use regularly to start cutting highlights of a still recording show. Expensive though compared to other solutions. But rock solid and a stronger alternative to Media Express. Their playback software “On The Air Video” is also very good and plays nicely with BMD hardware.

March 8, 2012 at 6:53 pm in reply to: ATEM TVS/H264 Pro Recorder streaming/recording software MX Light UpdatedWe will be looking to this one as well to see if we can use it to live stream Youtube events. One issue for us though may be Youtube needing specific bit rates etc that the H.264 Pro Recorder might not be able to be set to. Otherwise I guess it’s back to Adobe FME and a big CPU load.

Juan, it looks like he is on a PC, which only gives you those codec options with BMD’s capture software. Which in itself is very annoying but a fact of life unless you fork out for 3rd party capture software.

As much as we love (and have heaps of) Blackmagic’s products, we have been using an Aja Ki-Pro since it’s inception in our OB truck as a simple backup recorder. It’s 4 times the price and although similarly unfinished it does address all of the issues above. Only drawback is it does not do DNxHD, which given the professional demise of FCP around here – could be an issue int he longer term.
Thanks for the review – we were close to buying a couple of Hyperdeck’s for the studio but will hold off.

Kristian, are you talking bits or bytes?
