Just got hit with a question I don’t know the answer to, but someone here probably does:

Let’s say we are recording a live H.264 feed coming from either an ATEM Television Studio or an H.264 Pro Recorder on one PC, using Media Express software. Is it possible for a second PC on the same network to play the file while the first machine is still recording (we’re assuming that appropriate folder shares have been set up)? The objective is for a remote venue to be able to pick up a live event and join it cleanly on demand, typically delayed by several minutes.

Has anyone tried this? Or is there a better way to accomplish it without spending the big bucks for a full blown video server?

    Thanks!

I dont think so. But Softron Software’s Movie Recorder can do it. While recording it creates a 1 hour (or more via preferences) proxy file that can be immediately dragged into editing or playback software and worked with. It’s a great feature that we use regularly to start cutting highlights of a still recording show. Expensive though compared to other solutions. But rock solid and a stronger alternative to Media Express. Their playback software “On The Air Video” is also very good and plays nicely with BMD hardware.
