    Hi Walter,
thanx. Since we do also a lot of design on this machine we have a lot of fonts installed. I deactivated the most of them and now boris starts up quickly!

    Hi Nathan and Kaspar,

thanks for your answers. I checked the ram configuration. I think it’s ok, but have a look at the screenshot (https://www.heliosvision.com/ram.tiff) and tell me, thank you. Concerning the bmd card, yes I read that. Now I’m trying to work in dv pal, avoiding the bmd card. Let’s see how long it works.

    Thanks Patrick

    Hi UEM,

I’m experiencing the same problem. Expecially when positioning the cursor at the begginning of the timeline and then pushing play: complete freeze. The new system (new mac pro 2x3ghz, 6 gb ram, xserve raid and bmd decklink sp) seems really to be lot more unstable than the old g5 (with the same xserve raid and a bmd decklink extreme). To me this is disappointing. Is the system still so buggy?

    hi,

as you can imagine, I’m located in the PAL world. To answer also the other suggestion, I could recapturn it as DV, but guys, there is to much difference in image quality. I’ve done it and made a test with exactly the same frame, DV and uc; well, it’s two different worlds. I know it may sound strange, but since the image quality of the beta tape is not the best (there is a lot of noise, becasue of more than one copy generation, I suppose), I cannot capture it with a codec which heavily compresses. I have to get out the maximum out of the material and therefore use an uncompressed codec.

    Thanks

    ok, thanks,

but, I worked with simple fw 400 external disks and never had this problem. don’t know? to me it still seems a problem of the os 10.3.9, but I’m not quite sure.

    Hi JeremyG,

I’going to experiment with the setups. I will report about that later. The Lacie is connected via the G5’s fw 800 port. Can there still be conflicts? The deck is a Panasonic nv dv 2000. So no component out. By the way, it would mean to decompress the dv material and recompress it into another codec. Via firewire it’s just a copying process, therefore lossless.

    Thanks Patrick
