    Hi,

I find that regular stretching of my upper body whilst remaining seated and an hourly walk down the corridors helps quite a bit with situations like these.
Have you tried getting a massage on a regular basis as well? (you’d be amazed what a difference it can make even if provided once/twice per month). Lastly, consider Yoga/low impact stretching exercises.

just 2 cents from someone who’s sat in the editor chair for 30 years and has had a history of back pains – but no more.

    All of the above…plus:

    REDUNDANCY!!

When one craps out you can finish your job on the second (and last) monitor you have.

Depending on time and/or location, it is not always easy to just go to the shops to get a new monitor…

    Brilliant!

I use DH products but never looked into this one before. Looks like exactly what I need.

    Thanks

  • Can’t try this now but I think you can have 2 markers on same frame in FCP7 (may have to be of different color though). Not like resizing a box but still worth a try?

August 11, 2010 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Upgrading to FCC3 – clean install

    Hi,

install FCS3 upgd, you will be asked for previous version license number. No need to install the previous versions. Depending on your needs you may want to install QT v.7 as well.

    hope this helps

August 9, 2010 at 3:36 pm in reply to: subtitle translations…

    Hi,

good translation = professional human translator whose mother language is the one you translate to. Possibly with a good grasp of subject (some translators specialize in tech stuff or cultural and so on…)

subtitle tool: look at Annotation edit, a great piece of software. We use it a lot and are happy with it. You can give Annotation transcriber to your translator who will use it to produce text files with tc markers that you import into Ae for further formating. You can instantly preview your subs over picture in Ae’s player and then export an xml file that you import into FCP. lay this over your edit, render and you’re done

    Hope this helps,

    Patrice

  • Although I own a pair of Genelecs I agree that they sound too nice and would back up the choice of PMC’s. Also, ditch the sub from your budget as you will get tired from all this overwhelming bass when you edit.

August 5, 2010 at 3:22 am in reply to: Apple Certified FCP User

The level one user exam lasts 90 minutes and is made of roughly 60 questions. Multiple choice. Sometimes multiple answers. Some is based on screen pics with before and after situations where you are to decide what happened, what function was used etc. Some are screen pics where you have to locate the command used to achieve the result depicted.
There are questions about shortcuts but not many.

If you read and practice Diana’s book thoroughly and understand its teachings you should pass. If you don’t, you can pass the test again after 7 days, for a fee.

    You have a point.

In the stuff I do we rarely replace just one word, an that’s mostly for ethical reasons; we’ll usualy weave the commentary, if there is any, around what people said, the way they said it. Visuals will of course help in refining the point being made.

I could see a use for stuff like corporate stuff where many times the message has to be delivered the way it was scripted.

Difficult to have any since the product just came out ;-), but having attempted to use the trackpad on MBP I know for sure that however cool it may look the faster editor will be the one who uses keybord shortcuts.
