  • Magic Trackpad and FCP?

Anyone have experience with the new Magic Trackpad in FCP?
Curious how functional it would be. I love my mouse (actually a PC mouse with right-click!) and keyboard functions, but the multi-finger gesturing of the Trackpad seems like it should have lots of potential.

Difficult to have any since the product just came out ;-), but having attempted to use the trackpad on MBP I know for sure that however cool it may look the faster editor will be the one who uses keybord shortcuts.

Yeah, I think the idea will be to use both keyboard and trackpad to together to make things quicker.

It’s very slick. I’ve been working with it for a few days inside FCP and the multi-touch gestures are definitely nice. There is a little bit of a transition period, but once you force yourself to use the trackpad instead of the keyboard shortcuts, you’ll definitely save some time. One specific benefit I have noticed is the ability to zoom in and out of windows even if they aren’t the active window (ex: if the timeline is the active window, just move your mouse over the canvas and pinch to zoom without making the canvas the active window).

I wonder if this will allow me to use the multi-touch gestures with my Powerbook G4, which has Leopard.

My favorite is scrolling with 2 fingers, which you can’t do on the Powerbook’s trackpad

    Hi

I put this up on youtube which shpws some of the features. Personally, I have swapped my magic mouse for the trackpad.

Love it! Thanks for doing the video.

If Apple are clever I could see this really taking off for us editors (and I’m sure many other users).

How about being able to slip or ripple using three fingers as you hover over a clip or edit point? I’d love that feature to be added. Put very simply I think it is better than a mouse. Very nice.

Thank you so much for the video. Your last statement was exactly what I am concerned about — the angle of the wrist. I’m wondering now that you’ve used the trackpad for a bit if it is, in fact, a problem, or if it’s been easy to find a comfortable position for long editing sessions.

I am not sure I see an advantage over the Contour Shuttle Pro or a Wacom tablet. If you are used to gestures with the iPhone, then it would make more sense.

Why not use a mouse pad with the silicon wrist rest to hold the hand in a more ergonomic way?

I know its been awhile for this post but I have to ask, has anyone used this option for long periods of time?
I tried this on MBP with FCP and I cant get the jog to work.
