Im not sure about turning it off temporarily but what you can do is drag it off the footage onto the grey area, set a keyframe and then go to the frame before the next time you want to use it, set a keyframe there and then continue rotoscoping.

    Hope ive helped,

Wow, that looks really cool! I think that there would be lots of interest in this sort of thing. The sample pics and video look really great and would certainly sway people towards buying them.
So yeah, i’d say go for it, i’d probably end up buying it one day 🙂

p.s. Did you use Video Copilots plug-in ‘Twitch’ to create the effect at the start of each new video section?

hi and welcome to the cow and after effects!

Firstly the background you speak of is it a consistent colour or one that varies. If it is consistent you may have a chance of getting rid of it fairly easily but ill need to know what its like first. If it is an uneven or many different colours you will have to rotoscope it frame by frame. Incase you dont know, rotoscoping is basically drawing around the subject with the pen tool frame by frame to separate it from unwanted parts of the shot (the background in your case).

hmmm, this is quite a strange situation. Are you sure it is an adjustment layer, like is the adjustment layer switch turned on in the switches/modes panel (a circle which is half black, half white) because when this is switched off the layer becomes white as you describe. As for the black layer problem, i am unsure, all i can think of is that you make sure caps lock is turned off but i dont think this sounds like the problem.

another way to do it would be to duplicate the footage layer and add the gaussian blur to the top layer in the same way (with the eliptical tool etc)

    Hope i have helped,

February 21, 2008 at 5:29 am in reply to: Blue/Green screen effect with video??

well the best method would probably be to use the keylight plugin which is included in After effects from version 6.5 i think or maybe even earlier. For a good tutorial on keying dv footage with keylight see this one on basic color keying

be advised that it will be very difficult to obtain a clean key from a poor quality webcam video especially with poor lighting. If your unable to key it you may have to result to rotoscoping which can be very tedious.
