Sounds to me like you have selected RGB 709 as your color space in the project format tab.
In RGB you can only work in 1:1 or 4:4:4:4

Change it to YCBCR 709 and you get codec choices.

Lots of Broadcasters now use Loudness as a measure of volume.
It is possible to miss the audio well even outside a dub but you need the skills to know how to read the levels and balance it well.
And it’s also possible the audio is distorted at source.

While it’s probaby possible resolve lacks the offline tools that make long forum edits easier.
Media management for a start and then all tge other tools for sorting sifting bin views etc.
That’s why most folks still use Avid for long form work.
Scriptsync and phrase find are two key tools.

You can only compare output datartar to input if the codec is the same.
But as pointed out by others bumping up the output data rate too high will produce a file that is difficult or impossible to playback.
Hence the questions on what device will playback the file and what are it’s technical limits.
That has to be the starting point.
If that device can cope with say 200mbps you then need to decide if that data rate is needed.
Do an enode at that data rate. Then try one 200mbps lower and compare quality. Repeat going ever lower. When you see a quality drop go back up one or 2 steps.

I’m teaching a whole section on Technical Supervision over the next few weeks to Uni students.
It’s such an important element of a Production.
Errors an issues like this are so easily avoided if you have a Technical supervisor and plan the work.

How can you expect a few maps to compare to hundreds for the DCP?

I trust you are scaling the H264 to sub HD frame size?
And how ate you making the H264? The encoder used has a big impact on qulaity.
Multpass VBR and 10mbps for SD frame size.
A lit more for 720p and even more for 1080P.

I don’t think there is a field step command like Avid.
You can change which field is displayed. So you can toggle field.
But it’s a bit of a dance to check a series of frames.
You end up looking at field one toggling to field 2. Step forward one frame (but you now looking at field 2 still so you have to toggle back to field one then toggle to field 2) then repeat.

Nor done this for a while but you used to be able to export an ALE from a bin of your subclips and import it into your masterclass bin and merge the data. You’d need to test it first but that maybe worth a try.

With batch import there is an option to override the initial import settings. It’s an extra bit ton you select and then you can override the track selection.

Honestly if you need to encode files you get what you pay for and Squeeze is a great encoder.
If the quality of you encoded files is important then the investment is worth it.
I’d go squeeze everyone.
