There is a bin column that shows the codec of the clip. You can also right click and select reveal file to see the media file.

It would but its not very efficient.
You’d end up with media for the subclip and media for the full clip.
The more effecient method is to transcode the full clip and then relink the subclip to that new media.

What?
Nobody ingest whole files unless they need the whole file.
AMA link. Select what you need. Consolidate or transcode.
That’s the modern equivalent of batch capture.

The software shouldn’t change the frame rate and doing so will cause sync issues.
You need a new dubbing mixer. These are fundamental mistakes.

Without knowing the software and his workflow impossible to say.
But up converting before export gains nothing.

16 bit 44.1khzis CD quality
So it will probably be OK.
But yes most audio post software allows you to change the bit depth and sample rate.

You can convert bit depth and sample rate in MC no problem. Transcode or Mixdown.
But you have lost quality and up converting won’t restore.

Sounds like your source has dialogue on one track and music on another. When you edit the clip across either only one track is coming across or you have only the music track active.
What I can say is no NLE can split a mixed track.

Well the normal workflow for grading is that the AAF or XML from the offline edit goes to the Grading system and the Grader connects to the original sources linking them to the ingested composition.
So at that stage you have all the original sources available in all their various colour spaces and LUTs etc.

If you link in Avid you have the choice of leaving the footage as it is and transcoding or applying a corrective LUT and transcoding (but not embedding that LUT, it still lives sitting on top of the media) or Transcoding and embedding the LUT (so you can no longer get back to the original look without reverting to a pre transcoded version)

So it depends on what you workflow is to be.
