This is a great topic. I was literally going to start this discussion today, and here it is!
I am yet to see a succesfull conform in Resolve from Premiere’s EDL OR XML. Usually a bunch of clips don’t connect, and the ones that connect have wrong in and out points.

I have tried two different types of projects.

1). Original footage – R3D. Offline picture edit was done using Quicktime Prores dailies in FCP. I brought it into Premiere via XML and reconnected the .mov clips to original R3D files. (SIDE QUESTION – anyone knows a way to batch re-link media in Premiere, like you can do in FCP? seems like in Premiere I have to do it clip by clip).
Export EDL (or XML) with R3D clips and then import that into Resolve. Everything falls apart.

2). Same project as above – this time I used Clipfinder to reconnect the clips to original R3D files. Import Clipfinder’s converted XML in Resolve – VOILA! Worked like magic. HOWEVER! Import that XML into Premiere, works fine, and then re-export EDL or XML from Premiere, then import into Resolve – everything falls apart.

3). This project originated in Premiere. Source files – R3D raw footage. Exported EDL and “Final Cut Pro XML” – neither version assembles it correctly in Resolve. Same problems over and over.

I would like to add that I recently switched from Mac Pro to PC Resolve, and these problems existed on both computers.

So I think at this point I pretty much singled out Premiere’s EDL export as the one causing the problems.

What is the trick to properly and painlessly roundtrip between Premiere and Resolve???????

Tried switchinhg all monitoring modes. That was usually the solution on the Mac Pro.

Rohit, I used Resolve’s “Extract Audio” feature in the “Browse” tab to extract the audio from the offline editing copy (I am not sure what format Resolve extracts the audio to, but I would assume that it in fact does some conversion during the extraction and it would make the most friendly format for itself?).

I also had a wave file of 16 bit 48k stereo channel, which had the same problem.

This has been happening on more than a single project – I haven’t had a project properly play audio since I moved to a PC…
On the Mac Pro I have seen issues with the audio but I have usually been able to link them to frame rates (60p and audio playback don’t like each other for example) and audio frequency conflicts…
This one here I just can’t figure out.

Could this be an issue with Ultrastudio SDI, which is what I am using for video/audio sent to reference monitors?

I know the issue you are talking about – mine is a little different.

What you are decsribing is common – if the video is “getting up to speed”, the audio chops because it can only play at real time. So if the video is taking 3 seconds to get up to 23.98fps and in the mean time it’s playing at 11fps or 18fps or something like that – the audio will “crackle, trying to sync up with the uneven video playback speed.
Obviously graded shots take longer to get up to speed so that’s why the difference between graded and ungraded playback.

In my case here, the audio cuts out for 2-3-4 second chunks of time, even when the video plays smoothly and without frame rate drops.

Anyone knows how to fix it?

Yes of course, the first option I tried was without any “Extract Reels from EDL”.

And my timelines are always carefully prepared for migration. All video on on track, very tight.
I did everything you are describing here, and exhausted ways of trying different things…..
No luck.

Must be something with the original timeline…. The robots messed it up.

take the manfrotto off that list please. their gear does not stand up to the quality of brands like Cartoni and Sachtler.
You can get one for under $1500 – try what I have – Cartoni Focus DV head with a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod ( Mountaneer or something like that).

Apparently it’s not just teh Vista issue.

I just upgraded to Fujitsu A6030. It came with Windows Vista, so of course nothing worked. I downgraded to Win XP (Took me a whole day, email me for instructions!), and guess what? “Audio hardware blah-blah-blah”….
Solutions?
