I have attended this version of PP because i need full keyboard commands to make a fast editign workflow. But… what i see is Adobe make a footstep in the wrong direction. So, unfortunately, the Axio system is not good for me, i’m looking now for Avid (i come from Discreet Edit).

This is the same strage beaviour of Premiere like when i go to an edit point, make IN, go to next edit point, make OUT, and make an Extract or Lift command.
I want to simply select that clip and remove without use mouse but in this way it include the first frame of the next clip! I must every time remember to go left 1 frame and then make OUT.
Maybe developers of PP don’t use so much the keyboard on editing…

    QUESTION 1.
    Thanks for the explanation but:

    >Ripple Delete is obvious and is a Menu Option.

I set a keyboard shotcut for this command and it seems makes same job of Extract command but only with clips selected with mouse (arggggggg! I want to select clips with keyboard!!!), right?

    *********************************************************

    QUESTION 2.
What i don’t really understand is why EXTRACT command don’t work always at same way.
    Example:

I have 3 video tracks (no clips in audio tracks), make IN – OUT, select one video track, when in the selection…

    …every tracks have video clips:
    – it makes a cut in overlay mode

…only one track have a video clip:
    – it makes a cut in insert mode

…every tracks have video clips but i lock every others video tracks:
    – it makes a cut in insert mode

There’s not a command that make ALWAYS (on the tracks that is not lock) a cut in insert mode?

Ripple delete command seems have same confusing and strange (for me) behavior.

    *************************

I think the best editing software must have basic function (all with keyboard shortcut), every with clear and not confusing function, and with this basic commands make ALL the possible operations in a timeline.

I think that a very powerful timeline must have:
    – two status: Insert OR Overlay
    – a way to select multiple tracks in the same time (or deselect all, or select all with a keystroke)
With this two basic function is necessary to have very few basic command to make ALL the operation on editing with also more speed in the workflow.

Maybe PP is a good editing program when works on 1 or 2 tracks, but, with hardware like Axio, with 4 or 8 video tracks in realtime…

    Thanks

    1. I don’t want to split the clips because i want to preserve the transitions/effects keyframe.
    2. I want to select between two points (IN-OUT) and select some video/audio tracks and not others, for these reason i cannot make a nested timeline.
    3. I can’t always drag because sometimes i want to paste in a section of the sequence that is outside the current view of the timeline or paste in another sequence, so i need to make this operations with Windows default keyboard shortcuts: CRTL+C for copy, CTRL+X for cut, CTRL+V for paste (or another keys but with same result).

So is impossible make this simple operation with PP if the tracks involved is more than one?
With the power of Axio and the ability to make compositing with many layers/tracks i think this is a big problem.
I don’t want to make a huge number of sequences. Is incredible that everytime i need to cut and paste (move) a selection that is in more than one track i need to make a nested sequence!!!

Do you mean that is not possible to make that cut in the main timeline???

This is exactly what i want and what i need from a video editing program, and i don’t think is so difficult to put in some future versions of PP.
I wait PP 2.0 before think to maybe buy an Axio System because my work is 95% pure and simple editing.
For now i stay with my Discreet Edit and if i need some special effects i prefer to wait the rendering, fast editing workflow (with ONLY keyboard) is more important for me.

    Thanks LS

I wait for Premiere Pro v.2 before consider to buy an Axio System.
For now i prefer remain with Discreet Edit because 95% of my work is pure editing and PP is too slow for me.

Yes, is a very tough transition.
I can’t make simply editing things than with Edit it was so simple and intuitive.
Premiere have too many tools, is a little confused and not intuitive.
Edit have few basic commands and with that commands is possible to make everything; intuitive, fast, simple: less commands (all with keyboard shortcut!) for the same result.
Premiere seems to me like more a photo editing program that a professional video editing program.
I try to study Premiere but is very tough.

Ok thanks but… Again with mouse, no keyboard shortcut.

This post confirm all my fears about this software.
Is too bad to have a powerful system like Axio with a software like PP.

Maybe i must to look at VelocityQ (or VelocityHD), this seems to me to have a better workflow in pure editing but maybe is too much dependent to hardware where Axio can grow with power of future CPU.
Or maybe i must to look at Avid… I don’t like too much, it offer less things for many more money.

Or maybe i must hold my breath, remain with Discreet Edit and pray for the version 2 of PP…
