    Hi Phil,

Do you mean that when you select your clip in the FCPX’s Browser, the Info Inspector shows that it is a 29.97 fps clip?

    Pablo.

    Hi David,

Changing the suffix or your .mov file to .mp4 may work for you. It does it all the time for me.

    Hi Pete,

Are you importing your clips into the Project pane, or are you dragging them into your Timeline?

I always import my xdcam ex clips into the Project pane and have never had a problem. Make sure you don’t rename or relocate your files and folders once they are connected to a project. Also, never rename a BPAV folder, because Premiere Pro looks for that specific name when importing xdcam ex files.

    Hope this helps,

You are right, Michael. The $7500 Canon XF305 camcorder offers 50Mbps MPEG-2 Recording and 4:2:2 Color Sampling, even though it has 3×1/3″ CMOS sensors. I don’t think it is fair to ask us to purchase the PMW-500 in order to record at 50Mbps.

I believe Sony would make more money by giving their EX3 camcorders this capability, because more videographers will stay using SxS Cards to safely record 50Mbps/4:2:2. One of the main pros of the EX3 -besides the great technology it offers- is its lightweight and small desing, which is a great advantage when shooting drama on location. Its small footprint allows me to see more of the interiors (small or large rooms) and get a wider variety of angles.

It is great to keep the camera configuration simple, without the need to get accessories that will make it bulky. That’s why I’m interested in asking Sony for this software upgrade, if possible.

    Hi Joe,
The most you can do is create a new folder -name it as you want- and put your BPAV folder inside.
Regarding file names, you should not change the original file names. But once you import them into your NLE system, in the browser window you can rename the clips to organize your video files.
    Hope this helps.

Shane, thank you for your input. I’ll go ahead and test my workflow. Just want to make sure my G5 reads the video files written by the Sony Vaio laptop on an external hard drive.

    Best regards,

    Pablo
