So Should I use the MXF4mac – MXF Import QT (https://mxf4mac.com/mxf-import) or MXF4mac – P2Flow (https://mxf4mac.com/index.php/p2-flow.html) or both?
So I assuming I use one or both of the above with FCP, I should set up a FCP project and sequence timeline as ProRes422 HQ and then use MXF4mac to import the AVC Intra 100 1080 24p footage? I won’t need to transcode or make new copies of the media? It would have to render on the timeline?
If I wanted to bring in DVCProHD 108024p(over 60i) footage shot with a HPX500 P2 camera I’d have to use compressor or something to transcode that material to ProResHQ? or would MXF4mac help with that too?
Thanks!!!!!!

February 17, 2010 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Which codec is better? Panasonic HPX3700 or the Canon 5D Mark II???So if the 3700 is out of the equation due to cost would you rather shoot a TV bound doc with a DVCpro100 HPX500 and letus rig or a canon 5d?

Thanks Jeremy,
So let me clarify. I gave my client 60p not 24p? If I had shot 24pn would that be 24p(23.98) in playback on a monitor? isn’t that what the “pulldown” is supposed to do is make the playback of the 24p(over60) playback with the frame rate style of true 24p? Is there a way of at this point making it look like true 24p even though I didn’t shoot 24pn? -
A few days of testing under my belt and buying a suction cup rig for the inside of the windshield later… bug splatter will be the biggest problem.
Thanks. I’m going to go with 300degrees for daytime interval shooting and 350 for nighttime.
I can’t seem to get this to hack to 2 fps… I enter 2 into the scene file and it pops up everytime I do it as 3 fps…
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Shane!
just what I needed. Maybe I don’t even need to do use the firestores. Power would be an issue I’d have to come up with so if my 8 16 gig P2 cards will work that would be great.
Would I want to do anything different for this time lapse driving at night?

I find it noisy too.
but I make this comment publicly to share images and find the best possible solutions.
I’d also like to know what is considered acceptable noise in a beautiful HD image.
I’m just trying to know where my skills as a dp are running into the limitations of the tool.
the noise and less than impressive sensitivity makes me feel a bit rocky to be totally honest.
I’ll post images with others for helpful review.
Really I’d just like to know what my competing cameras produce as well and how to make the 500 look as good as possible.
thanks

Barry,
Why does the HDX900 produce a better image? can you tell me in terms of the capabilities of the CDD? Also when I upgraded from the hvx200 to the HPX500 I was instantly blown away with both how much better the HPX500 was in low light but also how bad the HVX200 is in low light too. I hear you say the primary image enhancement between the 500 and the 900 is less noise and slightly sharper picture. I have been beginning yo come out of my honeymoon phase with the HPX500 and to tell you the truth your comment about the 900 being less noisy is making me start listening to to the voice in my head that the while the 500 is better than the 200 by a long shot… I would have been a lot more happy with the reduced noise picture quality of the 900.
I’m not really debating that though as I try to sell the HPX500 into the HDX900 market space all the time (because I own it- and because it is in the end a GREAT picture for the cost).
But I would like to know what the best I can make the HPX500 look is? Are my darker blues, grays, and blacks always going to have some noise? And even though its the same issue really, apart from noise, why do I still feel like the 500 is just not as fast in low light as I want it? In standard CineD and CineV scenes @ 24 fps what is the speed of this camera? I’d like to use my light meter every once in awhile. and so I can compare what is the speed of the HDX900 and HPX3000?
Last gripe…I have the hardest time focusing with the SD viewfinder… what a bummer. even the 17″ Panny lcd can be difficult at times. (side question – are you supposed to use the Varicam setting in the 17″ lcd with the HPX500 when shooting with the Cone gamma settings?)
Now so Jan doesn’t track me down and sue me…
I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!
IT’S 3 TIMES LESS EXPENSIVE when all is said and done then the HDX900 with lens and deck.
3 TIMES!!!
I have 2 fs100 but four 16 gig p2 cards is enough! I’m not even really jonesing for the 32 gigs really… other than extended record time takes, but that’s when I use my two fs100s.
I would buy this camera again if I had the same choices.
