  • I tried what you suggested because I must have gotten something wrong. When I went to burn the DVD I got the message that the scene selection menus were orphaned & could not be reached. This I found surprising since I had just successfully previewed the DVD using the preview window & remote control tool. I’ll play around some more.

I agree that there would be times when it would not be practical to have this feature working but I was only talking about creating a new AVI file mainly assembled from AVI clips without anything extra being done to them.

I make mainly holiday videos of all of our trips. Just suppose I latter on wished to make a compilation video of all of the highlights from each old video. I would like to be be easily add the dates for each segment without having to look back at my original tapes for this data. The tape has the capacity to store this data so why not have it give you the option of carrying forwards this data or not?

I don’t see why the data should be lost as soon as you start editing. Is there not some way to just add the data back in using Windows or some other program? Even EXIF file data from digital still cameras can be altered or added.

Thanks for that answer. I suppose that since all of my DVD players can handle progressive scan & here most new players have has it available as well that I should us this when rendering out. Noturally my TV displays progressive. If this is advisable does it matter if I render segments as I go or wait for the final render to do this?

It doesn’t appear in Vegas at all. I then tried Windows Movie Maker which is part of XP & it captured it without a problem. Going back into Vegas again didn’t help. I mention this because I recently could not renderd to WMV so used Movie Maker & when I went back to Vegas it started working so using Movie Maker must have changed something, I have reinstalled Vegas but that didn’t help.

Well after not trying anything for a few days I went back to the problem but this time from a different angle. I reasoned that the WMV codec was from Microsoft & then recalled that XP comes with Movie Maker inbuilt. I took an a avi clip into MM & saved it to WMV & it worked. This only confirmed my opinion that the codec was installed. Back into Vegas again & again the same clip but this time the codec is listed. What happened? What fixed the problem? I have no idea unless MM had some effect in moving a file that Vegas in the wrong place. Anyway it’s fixed & this only goes to show just hoe perverse computers can be. Thanks for the help.

When I click ‘about’ I get a similar message showing the location of my file.

    I did a search for ‘wmfplug3.dll’ & found it listed 3 times for Vegas 5 including at locations like E:program files\sony\Vegas 5.0\FileIO Plug-ins\wmfplug3

What size is your DLL? I have it listed a total of 5 times when DVDA is included.

It I knew which was the correct DLL I suppose I could just copy it into the same location that the ‘about’ says its located.

I click file>render. The save as type usually defaults to MPEG2. I press the down arrow under save a type & select windows Media Video V9 (.wmv). As soon as I make this selection I see displayed under Description ‘No existing templates support this media.’
