Thanks Shane, I was hoping for a better option as it will take loads of computer time.
If anybody has a brilliant hack, I’d love to know.

Thanks very much for your answer. I will try those things you suggested and see how it turns out.

For Titles/Credits in After Effects
I also have a sequence that was shot on a Canon 5D 1920×1080. Editing in FCP ProRes 4444 23.98 outputting to an SD DVD which leads to many questions:
1) The camera file says 23.98, not 23.976 should I stay with this frame rate for both FCP and After Effects?
2) What are the correct settings for my AE Comps so that they don’t look fat when played on a television? Normally I design in a larger size for square pixels then squeeze it in a second comp to compensate. But in this case, the camera also shoots in square pixels, so I thought I could create just a straight 1920×1080 comp and pull it into FCP. But on a tv, the text is thin.
3) I normally output using Animation compression but was going to use ProRes 4444 because it contains an alpha channel. Any thoughts on this for text? I seem to loose a lot of the soft edges in ProRes.
4) Can anyone tell me the best settings through Compressor to output for DVD? I’ve been using “Best Quality DVD” and it looks ok, but is there something else I can do and is there any way to get more out of the edges of the picture, as often, characters faces are getting cropped left and right.
Thank you so much for any help. I have to finish this project for a presentation Monday.

Ok, the animation codec render makes sense. But can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem of timelines not hooking up to renders? Just happened again, the whole timeline had been completely rendered. Unhooked the drive to transfer some media, then hooked it back up…must be rerendered. The render files are not hooking up and it is not giving an option when opening the project in order to relink them. None of us here are experts, but we’ve been editing on FCP for years and have never had this issue.
Can anyone please help?

It sees the device but as non-controllable when capturing HDV footage but controllable when doing DVCam. I have the tape detect set to auto. Downconvert is on. I can capture the HDV footage as DV, but the device is not controllable when doing so, and our director won’t accept this. Anyone out there know the solution?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I do have the deck set to downconvert right now. I actually was told by someone told me to turn off downconvert to get the deck to be controllable. Has anyone actually done this?
Any HDV to SD success stories?
Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. But doesn’t this make the clip an HDV clip? We need it to be NTSC Standard Def, not HDV or HD.
Thank you

Is there any word yet when AE will support the HDV codec used by FCP?

Thanks for your reply. I have heard a .dmz file is a 2D AutoCAD file that can import into illustrator, but can one work with it as a vector file or is it a placed image?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks very much for your input so far. Will check out these drives for our HD projects.
Any suggestions for a drive that is 250GB+ but a bit more portable? These will be travelling in Pelican cases.
Thank you
