I generally find that when the decision is made by the IT department – and they are closed minded to Macs – you are stuck with what you have. Sometimes, it’s almost as if the IT folks only know Windows, so it’s a form of “job protection”. IBM’s track record is an interesting one in this light:
Of course, if the bean counters also factored in annual subscription costs for Creative Cloud, versus purchases of competing tools, they might come up with different numbers.

Brett – I would agree. Whatever I feel about X’s suitability for certain projects, I’m unequivocal about its speed in fast turnaround projects like news stories. Whenever I’ve cut onsite on projects (usually corporate conferences and recaps), FCPX is my go-to tool. There’s no comparison in speed to delivery between X and Premiere (or MC) in these situations.
The basic timeline structure of A-roll with soundbites and VO and then cutaway B-roll shots above is perfectly designed for news packages IMHO.

Adobe has stated that they are experimenting with the pricing structure. You’ll note that the more expensive plan includes a lot more online (“cloud”) storage space. That’s the direction many photographers are headed (at least the amateur photographers), so I suspect Adobe is trying to respond to that change in the market. Just as there’s Lightroom Classic (local storage) and Lightroom CC (cloud-only storage).

Thanks for the replies. Generally some of these issues sound like the newer machines have the most connection problems. That’s what I’m seeing at least at my end.

You can also try the hue/sat curves to pick the color of the face and make adjustments within the mask. That way the feathering will be less of an issue, because it’s not overall. But be careful, because if you go too extreme with curves it will introduce banding.

Is this clip before or after your correction? If you are doing the correction, are you using the color wheels and/or hue/sat curves?
There are matching issues with the cameras, especially the wide shot. I suspect you are fighting the bounce from the blue lights hitting that wall in the background. This will likely require a basic correction and then a mask with secondary correction for his face.
If you’ll notice, there’s no real contrast separation in his facial features, so any basic overall correction you apply is going to tend to look plastic and pasty. Increase the contrast for his face and reduce saturation for lows and highs slightly, then work on the mids.

It probably won’t make much difference because both are fast. The internal will likely be faster than any external, however, I doubt you’ll see a difference.
One advantage to keeping the libraries internal, is that if you are running Time Machine, you get a back up automatically. However, the same can be achieved through other methods. Regardless, I would recommend the 1TB SSD so you’ll have space if needed.
In addition, I would recommend against bringing the media into the library. Leave it linked “in place”. In that case, your media might be on the external SSD and the FCPX library could be either internal or external. If external, at the end of the session, you could also copy the Library to your internal drive as a back up. Or the other way around.
I personally have libraries on both internal and external drives. Of course, if the library is on the same external drive as your media, then the project is portable if you need to use different machines.
