Well, not exactly. But remember they have a ton of products across live/studio/post audio, video editing, broadcast, news, media management, virtual sets, etc. So its hard to say how this is calculated. I notice in Avid Link that AC3 is still there, but as a separate option.

To my knowledge, Dolby is in a lawsuit with Adobe, but not with Avid. Maybe Avid is simply playing it safe. But, of course, all of this is simply speculation ☺

Actually that is how Apple operates in a way. When they cut the cord with FCP7, they also cut the cord with a number of 3rd party technologies that they deemed too old, no matter how useful.
There are plenty of stories of applications purchased through the App Store that have been dropped by Apple, leaving those customers out in the cold.

I would also venture to add that if you purchased a used copy of the legacy suite on e-bay and not from Apple or an authorized reseller, then any licenses included with the software are not valid for you; therefore all product you produce with that software is in violation. Such is the reality of “owning” software.

I don’t see any LUT folders in either of the two Common folders. Unless you have to create a LUTs folder manually.

I don’t have any specific knowledge. The speculation is that the lawsuit boils down to properly estimating numbers of licenses in the subscription model. Not because of subscription itself, but rather the fact that CC is a selection of apps where you can use a few or all. So calculating how many users actually use the specific apps with this technology becomes difficult.

Well, except the issue at hand is AC3, which Apple also used in the “legacy” products. If you are currently using these to create product that utilizes AC3, you may well be in violation of the same issues. Regardless of whether or not you “bought” the FCP bundle. I don’t know that for a fact, as that’s for lawyers to decide. But in theory, it’s a concern.
What is the status of AC3 in FCPX?

This appears to stem from an ongoing dispute with Dolby that affects any company who included the AC3 codec under previous licensing agreements. The same thing has happened with Avid Media Composer licenses.

Good thought, so I just did an update to get on the most recent release (April). But this didn’t fix it. I deleted all empty tracks again, which got rid of V3. Left channel audio dropped out. Then, when I added 1 video track back in (a new V3), the left channel came back.
Also, BTW, my audio goes through a separate PreSonus Audiobox USB audio interface. That uses core audio, so no special drivers involved.

Thanks. It’s been pretty consistent in R15. Generally happens when I “Delete empty tracks”. Typically that relates to empty audio tracks. But the odd thing is that on this project, it even happened when deleting the last empty video track.
