    Lol, yeah something like that, although that’s a bit more extreme than what I had in mind. Is that computer generated then, or real? Impressive stuff. Your work?

    Yes, i think you’re right. I originally thought to have the lens flare be the light source, and have it light up everything else, but not sure how that would be achieved, or if that’s even the right way to approach it. At the moment, I just have a black layer fading out on top as everything else gets brighter, but it doesn’t have the necessary impact.

    OK, I’ve uploaded my progress so far to the link below;

    Something still not quite right, although the lack of particles make a big difference I think, as they act like an explosive trigger for the final reveal. Without that, it feels a bit flat.

    Thanks guys. I’m going to keep plugging away at this. I’ve learnt a lot so far, and it’s been fun (albeit a bit frustrating at times, lol). I’ve actually got the lens flare matched almost spot on now. Dragon/text reveal i’m working on now. Thanks for the tips Mike – I think i can follow that. Particles I will leave to last, as that’s proving the most difficult to nail! I do have Particular, and also Knoll Light Factory Spectacular, and I noticed that the polygon particle is an exact match. But i’ve yet to figure out the movement or the shimmering. I sure picked a tough one!!

    Joe, thanks for that, but that’s way over my head. I’ve only been using AE for about a week, so I’m not sure even where to begin on that one! Even a step by step tutorial would have me tearing my hair out there i think.

    Mike, that sounds interesting, and achievable given my limited skill, lol! How exactly would I set up a flames as a luma map?

    Thanks for that. These particles are proving a real hassle for sure!

    Another puzzle which may be easier to solve is the reveal on the dragon and the text. It has a kind of ripple blue reveal to it. How is that best achieved?

    Thanks for that Darby. I have uploaded the movie file of this to the link below. It’s actually my own logo that somebody did this animation for a year or so ago, and I am trying to recreate it. It’s the the lens flare and the particles which are proving so difficult to recreate. I can’t get in touch with the person who did it before to ask them!

    March 21, 2008 at 7:48 pm in reply to: How do i fade my text up from left to right?

    I am using a Trapcode plugin called ‘Shine’ which is creating an effect of rays of light passing across the text. I’d like to give the impression the text is appearing as the light passes across it. At the moment, I have the text fading up, but it does so consistently across the length of it. And as a result, because the light rays affect the visible text, it is appearing in areas I would rather have a slight delay on, if that makes sense.

  • Thanks. You’re right, this would work, although highlight layers don’t seem to be able to maintain any of the blending effects my text has, so it looks different when you roll over it. I’ve seen professional menus that do this, but no doubt they are using pro software like Scenarist to achieve these kind of effects. It doesn’t seem possible in Encore, short of something rather crude.

  • I had this exact problem, but I figured out, as implied by Joe, if you only have the highlight layer as an actual layer in the button, you can have the layers much closer together. I had 4 menu options all at angle right on top of each other, so I just made them all one flat layer outside of the actualy button group, but kept the highlight layers in place. As the highlight layer in my case was quite small, they didn’t overlap. Simple but it works.
