I have a Panasonic BT-LH1700W, and in the new office I’m borrowing a BT-LH2600W until I can get a Panasonic plasma up on the wall..

We’re in contact with the cinema next door (one floor below actually) to get a deal with one of their smaller theater with about 70 seats. They’re installing a Christie 4K projector these days. Well suited for loads of fun. 🙂

Wow, that looks like an interesting app.. How does this compare to BMD UltraScope? Why would I use this amount of cash on a software only solution instead of hardware with BMD UltraScope? They’re pretty much the same in price..

  • I’ll connect the second monitor I have in my suite to the Mac running DaVinci and place the scopes there. Hope it works out. If not I’ll probably get a BMD scope and put it into the 2008 Mac.

I went from a 2008 to a 2009. The performance when I got a second card (I only tested with GTX285 on the 2008) was an incredible boost. I have a 2K 50fps RED RAW here of an explosion I’m making a ‘day for night’ out of. I have 13 nodes (!!!) and I can still get real-time playback in quarter and half res… Is that insane or WHAT?

    My setup is
    Mac Pro 2009 2.26GHz, 6GB RAM
    GT120+GTX285
    Decklink HD Extreme 3D
RocketRAID eSATA controller with 4TB RAID0 spanned over four disks.

Not the wildest setup, but for my range of clients (for now..) it’s a massive upgrade from the Color workflow.

  • I have low performance with 2K DPX on GT120+GTX285 as well, unless I’m on a half res. proxy.

  • Have been testing 2K, 3K and 4K RED RAW. No problems. You’ll need to adjust with different proxy qualities depending on your needs for real-time playback. It’s really flexible.

I believe I read something about the work on either Robin Hood or Avatar and remote grading. Incredible stuff.

    FINALLY!! 🙂

  • Different needs for different clients. With the option of having sound while giving the client real-time playback during a session, they get more of the right feeling and mood once you hit PLAY. It can be the music or the dialogue, whatever makes the ride more pleasant.

It’s not a must, and nobody says you have to use it. Why all this rage?

I’m no bird guy. I’m a cat person. I would never know what goes on in anyones nest.

I tested with GTX285 only, on a Mac Pro 2008. Prores in 720p50 and 1080p24 and 1080o25 went real-time with proxy ON. Did not test RED until I got the 2009 with GT120 and GTX285.
