I just had the very same message error, but it happened only after rendering any part of my sequence, even after restarting FCP or even the computer.
Just wanted to say, in case anyone finds the same situation, that the solution posted in here solved my problem.

Dan, you’re my hero. I wasn’t looking at the small picture and missed that particular detail.
My keyframes started a little bit earlier than the 2 seconds mark. I thought the “if” conditional would work no matter where the keyframes started but this is not the case.
