    [John Rofrano]
This only pertains to NVIDIA who changed architectures with their new cards. AMD/ATI Radeon’s don’t have this problem, and perform better with OpenCL (which Vegas uses) so I’d recommend getting a new Radeon card if you’re looking for a new card.”

Disagree, at least partially. Mainconcept AVC OpenCL does not work with AMD graphics core next architecture GPUs. This is their current architecture. 7xxx and the current Rx series cards. Vegas proper and Sony AVC are fine.
My old 5850 cards absolutely flew under MC AVC OpenCL and my current 7950 is unused in MC AVC OpenCL. Mainconcept hardcoded the encoder to specific architectures and stopped with Cayman.

AMD cards currently are better with OpenCL. Nvidia by design reduced the compute capability in the current generation compared to previous. The only exception to this are the Tesla compute only cards put back some capability taken out. Tesla cards are uber pricey.

If you are rendering for upload to Youtube then why not use their recommendations.

or just use the, Internet 1080p, and Internet 720p templates. Both Mainconcept AVC and Sony AVC have such predefined templates.

[Steve Rhoden] “GPU’s… Still an unsettling topic!”

Yes, OpenCL GPU use and their drivers is still pretty new and shaky. Then there is the possibility of mixing OpenCL and OpenGL on a timeline. Vegas using OpenCL and people like NewBlue and Boris using OpenGL. A pure system either way would be cleaner, but that is not what we have.

The video game world is quite stable with pure DirectX or OpenGL.

  • Sony is a huge conglomerate. Sony as a whole has been having trouble for many years.

The only thing that matters to the Vegas product is how the Sony Creative Software division is performing. If Sony were floating high and SCS was doing poorly then the Vegas product would still be in trouble.

[Andras Patak] “On the official site shows the same as for 12 but we already know that’s not as it is.”

You did not seem to ask a specific question.

Sony says they have GPU accelerated effects and accelerated AVC encoders. This is accurate and all there is and ever has been. Not all effects are accelerated. Most can be. Mainconcept AVC has been a little touchy with the newest GPUs. Meaning it many not support them. Sony AVC seems fine with newer GPUs.

[Matt Carlson] “Hold down CTRL when you are selecting and the cursor will not move.”

Yes, but if an event(s) is already selected it will stay selected. The Ctrl modifier is used to add more events to an existing selection.

This is standard Windows UI convention.

Ctrl+Click adds individual items to a selection.
Shift+Click adds to a selection where everything in between the current selection and the Shift+Click point is added to the selection.

[Stephen Crye] “I know that there are many facets to “perfect” YT quality, but I have always rendered at 29.97 . I’ll have to try setting it to 30 – but is this a good idea when the source footage is 29.97?”

I only mentioned 30fps since the original posters sources were said to be 30fps.

Render at the same frame rate as your source. However, If your source is above 30fps then you should render 30fps or below. The online service will resample to 30 and lower for you so why not take control of that yourself. i.e. If your source is 59.94 then render at 29.97.

Youtube re-encodes your videos down to about 7-8Mbps bitrate for 1080. Low bitrate can soften up your video in area where little compression is available. Fast moving stuff is one of those situations.

Since your media is at 30fps and you are encoding at 29.97fps you should have resampling disabled on all media. Better yet, encode your video at exactly 30fps. The drop down does not list an exact 30fps but you can enter a value into the field.

February 2, 2014 at 4:57 pm in reply to: vegas 12 with 720p 60 fps

    I am able to create a Blu-ray 1280×720 59.94 template in Mainconcept mpeg-2.

Since no 720 Blu-ray template is predefined for MC mpeg-2, I start with the 1080p24 one and change the frame to 1280×720, rate to 59.94 and I-frames to 30.

[Howard Steiger] ” I see no option in render settings for 60 fps only 30. “

What render as Encoder and template?

Sony AVC certainly does have 60p (59.94).
Mainconcept AVC does not have it in the drop down but you can easily enter the value.
    XDCAM EX does have 60p
    Mainconcept MPEG-2 has 60p.
