Intel Quicksync is implemented in Intel CPUs which have integrated graphics. Basically just about any 2 or 4 core Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge or Haswell (what i have, 4770 to be exact). Quikcsync is a function implemented in the Intel GPU.
You have to go through some hoops to get it available without a monitor attached and your video card as your main GPU, but it can be done.

I think Adobe has gotten significant backlash on Photoshop CC since they have gone through a couple of stages of lowering the subscription price for existing users. Adobe stuck their toes in the water and it is quite cold. They will get away with it but they are a super dominant app in their market.
Photoshop CS6 is my last PS.

Vegas can see multiple GPUs. It can only use one, and it lets you select which one. That is in Video prefs and it sets the Vegas video engine OpenCL usage.
Exactly what the Mainconcept and/or Sony AVC encoders do with multiple GPUs I cannot say. Who knows how they select which GPU to use. Probably the primary display/GPU.
The only multi-GPU play did once was with Intel HD graphics and my AMD 7950. The HD graphics giving access to Quicksync for encoding in Sony AVC.

Unfortunately, a common problem with Open source projects.
Google “handbrake tutorial” and work your way through that. Once you get a general idea, there are plenty of people here online, like me, that can answer more specific questions.
I don’t use much of the Handbrake interface. There are a lot of features, subtitles and chapters, people use to compress DVDs and Blu-rays to smaller files. I don’t use the Advanced video tab. I just use the simple controls on the video tab. The filters tab I have everything off since I have progressive source and progressive output.

No. Handbrake is self contained.
I have heard about the don’t install thing, but it certainly has not affected me. I have K-lite standard installed. One of the supposed worst offenders.
I have only used Vegas Pro 12. It may have been different in the past.
K-lite standard only installs Directshow codecs. Vegas does not use Directshow. Impossible to have a conflict. K-lite Mega does have a couple of AVI (Video for Windows) codecs.
Vegas does not install any codecs of any kind into any codec subsytem of Windows. There are many. Windows for Windows, Directshow and Media Foundation. Quicktime is it’s own world.

Maybe. It depends on bitrate.
At lower bitrates the AVC encoders in Vegas are not that good. The open source x264 encoder, which Handbrake uses, is really the best AVC encoder out there, period.
At medium to high bitrates x264 is still better but you cannot really see it and if you cannot see it then we don’t really care.

Why x264? Because it is the best AVC encoder out there.
Why Handbrake? Because it is the best user interface front end to x264.
