Thank you for sharing the 30% charge – that’s really what we were looking for, and 30% seems more than fair. We’ll write them and see what they say. They haven’t been the best to work with in the past, so we have a feeling they aren’t going to want to pay that much, but we’ll see. Thanks again for the input!

You are right! We didn’t even think of that. We used some Red Giant Software, which we know they don’t have.

Thanks Mike! Yes, we did put a lot of work into the the project, which is why we felt either we charge them for the files, or we don’t sell the work at all.

    Don’t go to File>Export

Instead, when you are in the comp you want to render, go to Composition> Make Movie

There will be two tabs on the left.

    1. Render settings: Best Settings
    2. Output Module : Lossless

    Click on the Lossless link

There is a section called Video Output and it gives you a link to select Format Options. Click that link.

Here you choose your compression type. If you want to overlay your text on top of footage in final cut you will need to export at Animation compression.

Under Compressor Depth, select Millions of Colors +
the “+” means that this exports your footage with an alpha channel, meaning the background will be transparent, and you can overlay the kinetic text over whatever video footage you wish in final cut.

Click OK to save your settings.

Back in the Render module, to the right of Lossless is the Output to (or Save As) tab. Click that link to save your movie to where you will need it.

    Hope that helps.

what were your original export settings from after effects? 17gb is pretty big for 1:50 … did you export at Animation compression?
Instead you could go with Apple Pro Res 422 codec. it will be a much smaller file but will look just as good. You may still need to compress again to upload to youtube.

August 27, 2011 at 5:24 am in reply to: How do I export wiht Blending modes??

I have tried this before but I don’t think it’s possible. I got rid of my blending mode and created a similar look using hue adjustments, then save it as a png to keep the background transparent.

how long is the footage that you are trying to create this effect for? if it’s pretty short, it would be cool to go with Michael’s suggestion of rotoscoping like The Waking Life.

are you familiar with flash and using a wacom tablet? you could import you footage into flash and trace over it on another layer to create some interesting effects.

unfortunately i don’t think there is an easy plugin to make this effect – without spending a lot of money that is.

for the logo icon, i would suggest using the Pen Tool in illustrator – if you are not familiar with the pen tool it is not the same as the brush, meaning you don’t draw with it. rather, you can TRACE an image by creating a path through a series of points. here is a great tutorial on the pen tool, little bit long at 27 minutes but it’s good to see the demonstration.

as far as the text in the logo, is there any way you can find out what font was used? if not, the pen tool could be useful here as well, albeit time consuming.

    good luck!

  • I agree with Darby that the Stamp or Clone tool might be the best way to go. Its very time consuming, but it will probably give you the best results.

  • The CMYK thing has been a problem for me in the past as well and today it happened again all because I accidentally imported footage that was sized at 852×480 instead of a standard frame size. Maybe this has happened to some of you working with many clips of various sizes. It’s always those silly little mistakes that get you!
