To be honest- that does sound intentionally misleading. But we all know only the lawyers actually benefit in these things.

That looks like someone hit record at the wrong moment or maybe the VHS deck lost tracking- guessing there due to the classic blue screen of death emitted by old analog gear.

Try resetting the layout to default, shift -z to zoom to fit and also check that the first clip doesn’t have a hidden L cut before 0 by expanding audio components.

Sure you can have a single angle of video that’s synced to your *hopefully* higher quality recorded audio. It would work as a regular clip in FCPX just not needing the angle viewer.

Yep totally agree. Pluraleyes would make short work of what you have and get you into a multicam edit very quickly. Worth every penny.

It could definitely be due to a keyboard issue- I use those commands all the time with zero issue on English keyboard.

I’d suggest a preference reset and delete/redownload FCPX from the App Store as it looks like corruption in your preferences.
