Well no camera is point and shoot good out of the box- if you leave everything on autofocus and autoexposure you’ll get a lot of unusable footage. Practice makes perfect. And secondary audio is easily captured via a Zoom recorder that gives you XLR audio input and can easily by clipped onto a tripod or your belt. If you’re not totally sure- try renting a camera or two over a weekend and seeing how you go.

Both the AC90 and 150 are fine choices, if I had to pick one I’d go 150. But to be honest, as of 2014 and on, those cameras are limited in chip size, lens capability and resolution. They feature relatively small HD chips with fixed lenses and are shooting HD resolution 1080p max. So, you’re not getting 4K which is exploding this year as a resolution and you’re not getting shallow depth of field which is also highly desirable.
For the budget you have to work with you could afford a Panasonic GH4 and a nice lens or two. You’d get 4K resolution, way higher data rate in HD than any of the other cameras you mentioned and the ability to use basically any lens in the universe via MFT adapters.

Short answer- no.
Long answer- yes it’s technically possible to use your iPad as a monitor. But you’re either getting it cheap with a serious lag and low frame rate or you’re getting it for so expensive it far exceeds the cost of a decent field monitor- which would already give you far better resolution and additional calibration and focusing tools.

Ouch- I’m assuming you already worked this out. Next time- production insurance and more caution on set with rental gear. Sounds like a total loss…

Hard to say without seeing it in motion but that looks like interlaced fields. Perhaps you have some settings set wrong in your NLE?

You’re in luck- this is the year of affordable 4K. So you can just skip an entire generation and go right to full 4K which gets you HD and 4K conceivably covering the standards at play at least for another few years. I’d look into these for starters:

Passing video through firewire and a hard drive in the middle wouldn’t really work- surprised it did once. Next time you want to get a Firewire 800 to 400 adapter.

I’d suggest offering them everything nicely arranged in folders on a portable hard drive that you loan them or rent them. Making the dailies all onto a viewable DVD is definitely going to be more work and I wouldn’t suggest offering this for free.

Try a cleaning tape. If that doesn’t work, get it serviced. The heads do oxidize and stop playing quite easily over time.

I can’t recommend it highly enough. Been going for over 10 years now and it’s literally changed my professional and personal life. If you’re not going because of expenses, you should work toward setting aside enough to go next year. If I relied on my work to send me I’d still be waiting….
