Did you preserve the original card file structure on the copy to hard drive? That’s what FCPX uses to ingest P2.

9 GB? I think you mean 8GB? That’s kind of an older spec’ed system may not be up to the task- depending greatly on the GPU and the hard drive. I’d suggest going into proxy mode to get better performance.
