You should have the wav file names in the TapeID column. If each mic has a unique name for each take that indicate which mic it is then you probably don’t have to worry about the TRKx column info. Or even a unique Sound Roll, which it maybe should have since it seems they were all recorded separately. Why is that they aren’t all in one wav file with multiple tracks?

I don’t think the audio that is currently in the Avid will have the necessary information for the sound editor to conform using an EDL.

Try making new clips with all the audio before grouping them.

So make a sequence and sync all 16 tracks of audio to the video for each video clip, so 4 sequences like that for your 4 clips. Then autosync them to create new clips with all the tracks. Then group them.

Unless there’s a new trick in newer versions, I think you’ll have to import the new audio, sync it to the picture, then autosync it and create new clips. Then you’ll have to manually cut them (pic & audio) into the edited sequence, replacing the old clips. I use the blue arrow for this sort of thing. That way it fills in both pic and audio nicely when the cuts are not in the same place for both.

Hopefully for you, someone has an easier way to go about this.

I cannot find the edit button.

One time, months ago I miraculously stumbled upon it, I don’t know if it was a reply or a topic I started, but it is an elusive little guy.

Where is it? I can’t find it and I generally forget something or want to change wording. Why is it so hard to find the edit button?

  • Hi again Andrew.

I was just reading what’s new in MC v8.5 and it says it supports 64 audio tracks. Assuming you’re on a lower version, can you upgrade to this one? Seems it will solve your issue.

  • Well that’s not fun, but at least you know why it’s happening.

I don’t know Premiere so can’t come up with any solutions on that end. Good luck!

  • Another thing to check is if there is anything loaded in the source monitor. There’s times when if the source/record monitor has a lot of audio tracks you can’t open another in the other window with a lot of tracks.

So if you are trying to open it with something in the other monitor, empty both first then try again.

  • Are some of those audio tracks stereo? If it’s still the same in the current version, Avid counts ‘voices’ not the actual numbered tracks. So if you have 21 tracks but more than 3 of those are stereo tracks Avid will think there are more than 24 tracks.

So 3 stereo tracks are counted as 6, etc…

Oh, I mean these posts on Creative Cow. Nothing to do with Avid! 🙂
