And the 10th (or so) time we re-started and plugged the Duel in, the P2 card mounted just fine. Although i had to format one of the cards that gave and error in the camera. Fortunately, the card was empty…

Might go for the Qio E-34, it’s half the price of Pannys gear, and much more versatile.

The CRT is fed with composite, and has to be downscaled for output. The Plasma is fed with HDMI and would not require any scaling at all….?

We’ve been using the IoHD for over a year now. Initially it was bought as a capture device (rather expensive…) for Betacam SP to ProRes422.

But now it serves as an output device for both SD and HD (we’re still shoot and edit SD, but will move to HD any day now…)

I’ve had no problems at all. But you should be sure to use the latest drivers from Aja.
The latest driver is mandatory for FCP 7, but also works with FCP6.

So, now I’m doing some tests…

Shooting progressive is all new… and my, I don’t like it. Stuttery motion. Yikes! How can most companies shoot 720P? Are we all that used to stuttery motion or are there tricks up the sleeve?

I’m all in the interlaced world (started with U-Matic low band).

And sure, 1080 has extra resolution.

What do you guys think? Is it just a question about getting used to the new “look”?

The HPX500 has two modes: video cam and film cam. Looks like I can use either (it is set as video cam now). Should I set the HPX500 to Film cam now when I’m in HD land?

I’m glad to hear your experiences with the SATA RAIDs you perhaps are using?

It’s a djungle out there – and since I’m in Sweden it’s okay to buy from the States – but if things won’t work, then it’s a bit trickier (as I believe) to return the stuff.

No – but I forgot I followed your advice… *blushes*

I do now have four of those neat little boxes.

But I will (of course!) not change the disk inside them until the warranty has expired.

But – and this is a good thing to know – those 2,5″ disks will not be faster than about 70 MB/s (which is the speed of my LaCie and WD drives).
I did the same test with one of my Elite AL enclosures and was disappointed with the lack of speed over eSATA.

According to OWC tech support this is due to the fact that 2.5″ disks are much slower than 3,5″ disks, even if they are 7200rpm disks (such as the Seagate Momentus inside the OWC enclosure).

(And this Hitachi Deskstar seems to be one of the fastest disk for the moment, besides those 10k rpm disks).

I’d like to run “real” SATA for my video disks. Up until now we’ve used LaCie d2, WD MyBook Studio edition.

I’m very interested to learn what external disks that are real (e)SATA?
The reason is that I want to be able to bring my project to home and that is not doable with bare bone SATA disks (at least not in a convenient way).

None of the disk are raided – I can see the disk inside the WD and LaCie enclosure and the Hitachi disk is bare bone. Sure no RAID there.

So I guess it’s that the LaCie and the WD are 5200 rpm drives – the Hitachi is a 7200 rpm drive.
