Unfortunately, this is an ongoing issue. I regularly edit with 4 tracks using Ultimate S and the preview can get laggy in multi-cam mode, even on my grunty i7 system (see specs below). The best I can get away with is Preview Auto with HDV only on the timeline, and Draft Auto if I include a track or two of AVCHD.

You might want to consider using Gearshift.

Right mouse click each image on the time line and select ‘reduce interlace flicker’.

When you say your computer started to shutdown, is the shutdown graceful (takes the usual amount of time but you cannot stop it) or very sudden (less than 1 second)? Or is the shutdown preceded by a flash of a blue screen and then the PC restarts?

In the first instance, you could have picked up a virus, especially if you access the Internet from this computer.

The second issue describes a CPU overheating problem described elsewhere in this post.

The third describes a system crash, possibly caused by your video driver.

As a general comment, Foxconn don’t always make the best motherboards in terms of stability. They are great for gaming, but not always up to the task of video editing. You should consider Asus or Gigabyte motherboards in future.

Crashes occasionally for me during multi-track edits, (un)usually when scrubbing, in both 32 and 64 bit versions. Thank goodness for auto-recover!

I am not sure I agree that blu-ray offers just capacity benefits. Video quality from an HDV/HD source is definitely visually vastly superior in Blu-ray when compared to applying the same source to a DVD.

Are my eyes deceiving me? How can something which has a maximum data rate of 40 mbps (blu-ray) produce the same result of that of 9.8 mbps (DVD)?

I was able to easily render to a file destined for Youtube using Vegasuar recently. Someone else eventually did the upload as I didn’t have a Youtube account.

I don’t have screenshots as I believe it was as simple as deselecting the Upload check box and following the prompts that follow… .

DVDA will sometimes do an audio recompression which should only take a few minutes before creating the IFO and VOB files, but if you are experiencing hours or compression, DVDA may also be recompressing the video. This is not a desireable outcome. If you search this forum for Mark’s bit rate calculator and 2 pass variable bit rendering, you should be able to work out what you need to do.
