Not using a dedicated system for editing is an issue in itself as other programs may install DLL’s and/or codecs that could interfere with Vegas. Other programs may load other components into memory. For example, iTunes typically loads components at startup. You will find other software does the same. Try to keep your editing system as pristine/clean as possible

I found SVP10 and SVP11 would crash continually, and a symptom preceding each crash was the audio would stutter. After I unchecked Enable track buffer in Preferences > Audio Device, the crashes and stuttering stopped.

The project was a 2 hour long 3 camera / 3 track multi-cam (Ultimate S 4.1) project with colour correction and contrast corrections applied to all events & tracks. Source footage was a mix of m2t and mxf files.

Does it do it with all projects? Try opening an existing one, or a project created in v10.

You don’t capture as such. You hook up the camera and use the content management utility to export the footage into whatever container you need it in e.g. MPEG2, SD etc.

You should be able to access the files as you would a USB drive.

The audio stutter is a known issue and a possible solution is to go into Preferences > Audio

    Uncheck track buffer.

I am at work, but I only recall two audio tabs, so it is under one of them.

This used to happen to me occassionally on SVP10 as well, but restarting Vegas always resolved the issue.

You might want to report this to Sony.

You could use Vasst Gearshift for your HDV .m2t files, AVCHD .mts files or even .m2ts files, MXF files, or Red R3D files to a DV Widescreen proxy stream. This means that even if you own a slower computer, or if you want to edit on a laptop or other less than optimal system for editing HD, you can use proxy streams for most of your editing work.

If your motherboard has eSATA, you could hook up an external caddy and back up your directory at hard drive speeds when you copy the directory.

You used to be able to capture in Cineform Neoscene

Sorry, I meant being able to capture using the Cineform codec and then edit your footage like butter. None of this Cineform Neo Scene or Vasst Gearshift-ing required to convert your AVCHD footage to an easy to edit AVI container. It was in SVP8 but disappeared when SVP9 hit the shelves and is probably the main reason why previews are so laggy. With SVP11, SVP finally takes advantage of/optimises the use of CUDA/OpenCL technology for previewing and rendering. But if you want high performance during editing, Cineform Neo Scene and Gearshift still rock.
