If you are simply talking recycling the case, then yes (assuming all the cut outs line up), but you will most likely need to replace the power supply for one with connectors and wattage suitable for the new mobo’s and devices. New power supplies come with SATA and Molex power cable connectors, but also have 6 and 8 pin power connectors for today’s video cards. I run a 1250W power supply as I have 6 hard drives, eSATA, 2 DVD burners, a Bluray burner and a 750W NVIDIA video card, all in the one case. I use an Antec mid-tower case.

Windows 7 has a compatibility checker, plus you can visit the manufacturers web site to check for compatibility. I would suspect that devices designed for Windows XP x64 will not work under Windows 7, and there is no direct upgrade path from XP to Windows 7. You can only go from Vista to Windows 7. When Windows 8 comes out next month, I believe there will be an upgrade path from Windows 7 to Windows 8, but no earlier.

Personally, I would bite the bullet and start afresh with my components. Your pro audio card may be a casualty.

Windows 7 is super stable compared to XP, and Vista was a waste of time. I stayed on it for about 2 months before upgrading to Windows 7 and have not looked back.

The strange thing is Vegas has enabled it of its own accord for me on occasion. Gremlins?

Check your deinterlace method in your project properties and try setting it to interpolate fields.

Let’s hope it is actually stable and has usable CUDA rendering. I spent over $500 for a NVIDIA card I cannot take full advantage of.

You can get an inexpensive USB 3.0 PCI card with 2 ports for about $40. I have one and get transfer rates of 90 mbps from my CF card reader. My mobo only had USB 2.0 ports up until then.

Of course, you have to have a USB 3.0 device/reader to get the benefits.

OK, In SVP, using the 1440 bluray template defaults to VBR, and I have change the radio button to CBR so that it uses CBR, and therefore, 25 mbps. You are correct in that regard. I did realise that the content was going to be longer than that which could fit, hence why I starting using 2 pass VBR.

Woops! I just realised what had happened. I had started the project as a DVD and was requested later to deliver in Bluray as well, so instead of using the wizard and redoing my backgounds and buttons, I adjusted the template via properties. My bad 🙂 Lesson learned!

The DVDA Bluray wizard offers MPEG-2 1440×1080-50i 16:9, and when I checked the properties after using the wizard, the frame rate is 25i, but the bitrate is 18 mbps, not 25 mbps. Are you suggesting I slide it up to 25 mbps to match what I am rendering out from Vegas?

Thanks John,

As I said in my post, the total video content is 3 hours (180 minutes), hence why I use had to use VBR.

I used this calculator:

Source length = 180 minutes
Audio format = 384 kbps
Custom bitrate limit = 25000 (as it did not have a preset for BD 25)
Media size = BD SL

It then recommendeds using 2 pass VBR plus the min, max and avg settings I posted above.

If I set the rate limit to = Force CBR, I get a CBR rate of 17150 mbps.

When in DVDA, it defaults at 18 mbps, which to me implies that if you give it anything encoding other than at 18 mbps, it will re-encode it. Yes, I can adjust the slider to suit whatever I want, but it appears that if you give DVDA anything other than CBR, it wants to re-encode it.

I have tried not to change the DVDA defaults unless absolutely necessary, but some are necessary I believe, such as setting the frame rate to 25i, to match my PAL content.

I have to admit every project I have done in Bluray has exceeded 2 hours 15 minutes, and I have put up with the 12 hour re-renders. Quality wise it appears unaffected, but it is so time consuming.

The intent of my post is to determine if my workflow is flawed, and I am stumped.

I found one but it is giving me crazy vbr rates like 46 mbps max, 17 mbps avg and 7 mbps for 180 minutes of m2t
