Ah it’s no fun if you get the solution from a project file!

First make an adjustment layer called Wiggle Control Sliders, then add two sliders to it. Name them FREQUENCY and AMOUNT.

Then Paste the main expression directly into the camera POV property, or the positional property, or any other property.

Then set some keyframes on the sliders, sit back and enjoy the greatest expression ever revealed to me on Creative Cow.

Ahh, is seems like an AE update has fixed this, as well as the camera issues in particular. Rock and roll.

Ah yes of course. Thanks for the reply. Render speed isn’t a dealbreaker really. I’d primarily use it for prep work or personal stuff, not hardcore HD epics. My MB Pro as it is isn’t great for rendering.

I suppose I was just looking for a general point of view as to the suitabilty of the new Airs for AE work. If they can handle moderate projects but take an age to render, I could probably live with that.

I know the early Airs were barely able to do anything; just wanted to see if the speed increases since then have made much of a difference…

Ha, I think I see where you’re coming from! I’ll give that a try.

Thanks also for the help Roland/Ted – the trouble with the twirl effect is that it distorts the dashes too much. Twirling the shape layer’s path doesn’t affect their shapes, so hopefully Darby’s suggestion will work out, scary though it is!

Ah, text dashes on a path?

I would use particular, but I need to be able to twist the layer exactly like the twist effect in the shape layer controls…gah.

  • What sells the Iron Man gfx is the sheer volume of the assets. Not sure there’s a way of making stuff look that good via a script in AE.

Depending on what your end usage is, you could maybe check out…

There’s shed-loads of ready made assets there that can be stripped apart and adapted to your taste, and it gives you tons of options right off the bat. If you’re looking to be a connoisseur and create everything from the ground up it’s probably not for you, but if you want a quick set of perfect Iron Man assets to use instantly, it’s ideal.

Management calls the shots most of the time – that’s why it’s called management.

Thanks for your help Eward! It seems to be working now…despite me doing nothing different from before. Ah well!
