    Thanks for dropping in.

Yeah I thought that, but I get the same error from SoundForge Studio, if I pick that as the default editor.

The video I was using was behaving strangely, so I tried another one and it did the same thing

    This is the SF message.
“The file C:Panasonic2012033020120321_131122.m2ts could not be opened.”

So the key seems to be that my efforts are somehow not just sending the audio.

…..aaahahhhh! If I use say, and AVI file I have no trouble, and there’s the rub. I actually get a _video_ track in SoundForge. So it’s the m2ts format that is the trouble. Vegas is _supposed_ to export the video.

Can I open the Audio _without_ the video stream, without rendering and re-importing? I can see the use of having the video stream, but in many cases I would not need it. If not I guess I have to render to another track in a usable format and work with that for sync work in SF. It does not even need to be HiQ, I guess, for sync work.

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried that site, but it only allows me to dl the Quick Start Guide for 11 or manuals for older versions.

Does anybody know what happens if I uninstall Platinum? Will I lose all my settings etc. I know I could work out where they all are back them up, but experience tells me that trying to reinstate such backed up stuff after reinstalling the programme often causes bad indigestion for all concerned.

Yeah it seems a strange idea, but it’s sort of what I figure3d happened.

I reinstalled standard Movie Studio, and that has given me back the Help. But you can’t do a repair AFAICS and you can’t install over the top, because Vegas refuses to do so.

Sorry. Audacity.exe has been set as my default external editor and fires up automatically when I ask the edit using external editor.

I also tried the Tools/Audio/Edit in External Editor, with the same result.

    Yep no worries.

I am using Vegas Studio Plat 11, and like you, Audacity. I have tried the same thing with SoundForge Audio Studio, though and had the same result.

The video I am using is from my camera. 1080 50p from a Pana HDC HS700. The Audio is the audio tracks from the video. It is 5.1. But I am at this tage just trying to edit a single audio track.

The method that failed for me was to right-click the audio track and choose Edit in External Editor, or Edit Copy in External Editor. This has resulted in Audacity saying that it cannot import Filename.m2ts (the video file from the camera).

I have tried removing the audio from its group but that did not seem to help: same error. I also tried duplicating the track, but again to no avail.

I have been able to render the audio tracks an then open them in Audacity, and I have seen that as an instruction in a tute, but it is cumbersome compared to a simple external edit.

I did have limited success with actually rendering the 5.1 tracks as a 5.1 output, but not quite. However more of that later…. if needed.

Magic! Thanks. Another of Vegas’s “hidden wonders”! 😀

No, I as well would like you to tell me the obvious.

Seriously I am not winding you up and I think neither is Sean. You are a registered Vegas expert, and we want to know why you have misgivings.

I for one have paid for Vegas (albeit on.y Studio Plat). But if a far better (well, more suitable to MY needs) product came along, free or not, I would be looking at it.

But so often a product looks good up front then falls over in the detail. So maybe “the obvious” is not what we are asking about at all. A short trial may not be enough.

It sounds as if you know more.

Because you are an obvious Vegas expert and we are interested. What makes you reject it?

OK. Just saw a vid. IF you are having trouble previewing smoothly THEN try fiddling about until some result is achieved.

As far as I can see the Project Properties is at best a fluid tool. not of any great consequence.

I will continue to work with that assumption as my efforts to find out more have been for nought or NADI. Back to worrying about rendering.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have read the Help. It tells me how. But if I am a “good boy” in setting Project Settings I do not see the difference, except sporadically, to the RENDER….and then the ONLY time I have seen an effect was if I set a really CRAZY aspect ratio. NONE of the other settings seemed to make any difference.

BUT I AM ALWAYS TOLD THAT PROJECT SETTINGS ARE CRUCIAL.

    WHY? WHY?/WHY?

WHY do I match it to the source?

What happens if I have various sources….frame sizes/rates?

Have you had a production where your first source was 1080p, the next bit 720i…etc and you had to give a reasonable output? So you are going to have greyscale and colour issues, and what have you.

But do the _Project settings have any effect on the rendered video_?

So far the result has been sporadic for me

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH\
