I am sorry, what does “Online Help” mean?
Vegas’s Help just says if I adjust the fader, the volume will change.

OK. I understand your confusion. I has me confused and I may have explained badly.
Anyhoo…I closed Vegas and tried again. All seems normal now. So I am not sure what I did.
So thanks for explaining. That is pretty much what I thought, but it did not seem to be working.

hmmm…there can be many reasons.
Given that you have tried several files, it would seem to be a setting…
I think the question from John Bolton about hearing sound when playing on the timeline is the critical one.
Also, what are you using to play the output file? Make sure its internal volume control is not turned off. 😉
Just one thing. You would have to be dead unlucky, but several of the templates have sound off by default. When you ask to render, choose your template and Customise Template. Click on the Audio tab and make sure Include Audio is ticked.
A (shudder) thing to try IF ALL ELSE FAILS is to uninstall and reinstall Vegas. This can happen if your codecs get fritzed somehow. But… last resort.

Not sure what you mean “clicked on the .wmv”. Where is this?
What are your exact steps to render? What rendering method are you using etc? What type of file is the source? What type is the output?HOWEVER: Some ideas to start off with.
– In each dialogue box that you work with,if you ask to Customise Template, there is a tab for Video and Audio, among others. make sure that Include Video is ticked on the Video tab.
– I find that Sony YUV mp4 codecs will only do audio and forget the video. this is even with the Include Video ticked.

Glad you are happy with it. Pity about the black fade problem. That broadcast filter is not _really_ the answer, as was talked of on the thread that was posted here earlier. But unless you have Pro, you can’t properly use the better filter anyway.
I still feel that you could process either the source stills, or the slideshow, to achieve a more tuned result.
DVD is no way as good as 1080. 720* either 480 or 576 simply cannot compete. You are also limited to 25P/30P video, which flickers a lot more than 50/60, or even more than well-rendered interlaced videos. You need Blu Ray at least for 1080. I will say though that if you are producing shorter films, you can at least set the bit rate to max allowed by DVDA, so you get as good a result as you can. That is still 9.8Mb/s max, which is way behind what you get from other formats.
