Try setting your field dominance in sequence settings to none. I was having the problem you describe and that fixed it. Some keyframed motion effects still look a little funky although overall things look better.

Hi Walter
Actually, this is NTSC out through AJA IO to a Sony broadcast monitor. There is a major difference and everything looks much better with field dominance set to ‘none’.

I hate to say it guys, but I am seeing some wierdness in FCP 5 that I never saw in previous versions. I have been editing for over 20 years and with FCP for 5 years so I know what I’m looking at.
I’m still evaluating what’s going on but I have seen some funky graphics in “normal” motion filter mode (and in best) and had to drop the project back to ‘fastest’ mode.
I also tried an experiment where I took a photoshop graphic with an alpha channel and slowly rotated it over over color bars. In any mode but ‘fastest’ I see little jumps in the graphic layer. When I use ‘fastest’ mode the jumps go away.
Of course this is on a system where everything is new: G5 Dual 2.7 with Tiger 10.4.1, FCP 5 using an AJA IO with the new beta drivers. Everything is done in DV and I’ve been working with DV in 4 and 4.5 and I know what to expect. What I’m seeing now is different.
We’ll see where it goes from here. With so many new pieces to the puzzle it’s hard to point in any one direction, but my feeling is that FCP 5 image handling is a little weird. Or is it QT7? Who knows!!!

Dave:
I am running an IO. I get better playback with unlimited RT and high than I do from Dynamic. I’ve only been using 5 for a couple of days. The graphic problem in the pix you posted is exactly what I am seeing. Changing the motion filter to fastest fixed the problem. I don’t see much difference overall in the video. I need to investigate further.

So far with FCP 5 my Photoshop graphics have had variable quality from OK to unuseable. I’m not producing them differently than I ever have. On one project I had to change the ‘Motion Filtering Quality’ to fastest to get a PS graphic to not jitter. Something is not quite right herre but I haven’t had time to investigate further.

If you’re comfortable with FCP, you may find it easier to do what you describe in FCP rather than to have to learn a new interface and the peculiarities of a new app while trying to complete a project.
