  • Using FCP as a Audio Editor

Posted by scottwitt Scott witt on May 9, 2005 at 6:28 pm

    Hi,
I am sure there may be better audio only applications, but I feel very comfortable
with using FCP. I have been hired to make a audio pilot
for a interactive history series. An example is the pilot will be
a overview of the american revolution, roughley about 21 minutes. We will be recording the 3 differnet voices
in my sound booth and then editing it together. As well as
adding sound effects like bombs dropping and water splashing from the Boston Tea
party. Things like that. Does anyone see and possible draw back to using FCP
instead of a more audio specific program? Or does anyone know of a better program to use?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,

Get yourself Soundtrack pro (when it is released) this is the application you want to use for audio editing.

Soundtrack pro was recently shown at the LAFCPUG meeting the first week in May and it was quite impressive.

If you’re comfortable with FCP, you may find it easier to do what you describe than to have to learn a new interface and the peculiarities of a new app while trying to complete a project.

    Scott,

I too am comfortable using the audio mixer, but Soundtrack Pro does look much more impressive. There’s another thread below about Mackie’s new MCU controller, which will replace your mouse with realtime faders that will controll FCP and Soundtrack’s audio controls. Behrenger is making a similar board for about a quarter the price of the Mackie.

cool, thanks. I think for what I am doing FCP is more than what I need.
It is mostly dialog with some background sound effects.

I;ve used FCP to edit sound tracks for films ive cut, it;s fine.
these were dial / fx / music jobs
a little bit cludgy-er than ProTools, which im also familar with, but if you know it, go right ahead.

now, i’m talking about EDITING, here, not so much processing, or adding FX.
for that STP looks great, or hey, remember mixers? that;s what they’re for!
