Unfortunately, don’t really have the time to test those 2 XDcam HD formats. Shooter/camera & location are across the country. So I think I’ll go with MPEG-2 422P@HL

One question about AMA linked media in MC5. Do I have to transcode all AMA-ed media in order video or audio export (understood that I’d have to for tape mastering)? And if I have a mix of tape-based DV25 and AMA linked stuff in a single sequence, do I need to transcode all to some single unifying codec? What’s the smartest/drive space saving way to do this? Seemingly it’ll create a lot of extra files.
Also, we still have a traditional in house offline/out of house online process. AMA-linkable, digital original media is still minority of media in our programming; bulk is 1080 59.94i DVCPro HD tape. So I’ll definitely be doing a lot of lo-res exporting for the offline, and that’ll presumably require a lot of transcoding. Say if I transcode a particular bit of AMA-linked media to DV25 (for offline), does that effect my ability to transcode to broadcast HD quality codec (like DNxHD) for hand off to onliner down the road? IE I can re-transcode this stuff?

2 more (hopefully) quick questions – presumably Compressor or FCP maintains original AVCHD time code after transcode? And can you batch re-name in Compressor like you can in FCP log & transfer tool?

As far as I know there’s no timestamp associated with the Zoom H4n-generated files – and they’re WAV files.
Understood about a more pro style method to generate TC for audio – problem is, production scale is such, that we’re relying on less than experienced operators (ie myself) with limited knowledge/funds for kind of gear you’re suggesting. That’s why I’m hoping to make this DIY Zoom/Plural Eyes workflow work – it’s something we can pull off given our means.
And if we were to get some kind of audio TOD TC generated, don’t quite know how I’d jam that to the HDSLRs (esp 5D) – there’s limited to none inputs on these cameras (basically a stereo mini in.) Cameras have internal clocks, but sync.ing that would be a necessarily imprecise eyeballing. Also, the TOD TC that does get associated with the video files (AVCHD H264s) is only generated/visible after doing an FCP log and transfer ingest using Canon EOS movie plug-in – and I don’t know if FCP is generating that TC itself, or actually referencing back to record cameras original clock.

Good idea but unfortunately, a little impractical given specifics of my production. Almost all gear per each shoot is rented or provided by owner-operators – so test is tough – and HDSLR audio is such that some of the cameras (namely Canon 7D) don’t have any real record level controls.

Happy to help, after years of only asking for help. Here’s what someone wrote me on the CC forum in response to my original request (oddly deleted): Quit out of app, go to the library folder within your main user folder and trash all FCP related folders/docs in the preference and cache folders. When you re-open app you’ll have to re-do your Easy Set up. Hope this works for you – it did for me. Nick.
